Heli-Coil 5546-10 M10 x 1.5 Metric Coarse Thread Repair Kit, Factory

Short version: Do not hesitate to buy this product.Long version: The tech who replaced the rear brake pads on my car a few years ago cross-threaded the caliper guide pins when he was re-installing them. When I changed the pads, I could not get the pins back in. It was then that I noticed that the male and female threads were damaged. Re-tapping the female threads and buying new pins did not help the situation. To complicate matters, the rear calipers on my car attach to the rear knuckle and not to a removable caliper mount. I was forced to find a way to make the caliper pins work. I came across Helicoils while doing an internet search and ordered them from Amazon.com. When you open the package, the first thing you notice is that the coils themselves seem too large for the thread you need. Don't worry about this, as the coils constrict when they are installed in the newly tapped hole. You will need to have a drill bit that is the EXACT size as stated in the package instructions. I needed a fairly large bit (13/32), so I drilled the hole larger in stages. A little oil on the drill bit helps. After drilling, you are ready to cut the new threads with the tap. The tap supplied is razor sharp and works great. Be sure to work slowly, keep the tap oiled and straight, and back the tap off every turn or so. After tapping is finished, the coil is installed with the supplied tool, the small tab broken off, and you are ready to reassemble your parts. My caliper pins threaded in and tightened down just like the damage to the original threads had never happened.The kit is a little pricey, but the tap and install tool are reusable, and 10 coils are included. The kit is thread specific, so make certain that you order the correctly sized kit. You can take your bolt to a hardware or auto parts store, and they can determine the threading if you are not sure.Please leave any questions as a comment, and I will try to help if I can.

This product is super simple to use and a lifesaver. I stripped out the threads on my brake caliper(banjo bolt, connecting the brake line to caliper), a new one at that. Ordered the helicoil kit and fixed it in ten minutes. Worked perfectly and it was my first time ever using the product. It's definitely my new best friend!

These things work very well. I have the car from hell- a 2000 Chevy Malibu (with the emphasis on MAL) that had a leaking lower manifold gasket. When I replaced the rocker arm bolts (steel bolts in an alumninum head) two of them stripped out- even though I was using the recommended torque. The helicoil repair took about fifteen minutes for each bolt, and have not failed again.

This tool did exactly what I needed. Fixed a stripped drain plug hole on a transmission. I did have to cut the coil a little shorter so that it wouldn't be hanging out so much inside the transmission pan. Worked great. After 2 months, the pan is still dry. No fluid weeping through.

It's a size thing with a repair. Prime delivered Helicoil 5546-10 M10 x 1.5 Metric coarse. The size needed I pre measured and this product located on amazon. I do normally get into jobs where the drill removes studs bolts never know what i find my auto is 12+ years. Then I got this cylinder project that someone broke the head bolt off. Only I admit to breaking things and this was not my doing. This Heli-Coil did the fix it did the total fix. So I am the man this is a valued item I own.

this item is very easy to use and was priced from Amazon way under the competition. I used it to fix stripped out threads on a pressure washer pump which otherwise would have had to be scrapped. Saved me $300 for a replacement pump. All you need to supply is the correct drill bit. An excellent purchase with outstanding results.

Works as advertised. The aluminum engline block had 3 stripped engine mounts. I was wary that tapping them would work due tot he load and stress, but the tap went as planned and the coils fit without problem. Put over 2k miles on the engine and even raced the car at an SCCA event and the thread repair kit has held. Highly recommend this kit.
