Verbose, pretentious, unhelpful.
This may not be the worst book I've ever read, but I'm struggling to come up with a worse one. The writing style is mind-blowingly pompous and haughty. That issue would merely be irritating but for the fact that as a guide to even basic violin repair, the book is close to useless. The Kindle version, at least, contains no diagrams! I've never come across a book on how to repair anything, much less something as complex as a violin, that has no diagrams(!). Seriously, you can get more useful information on Youtube.

A good book to read, uncle duke.
Although I haven't tried any repair techniques from this book I know from the reading that I'll have enough confidence to try when it's time. The story about the 300 year old violin restoration can't get any better. If this book was published in 1903 that would put the aforementioned violin in the early 1600's time period. This book is good reading for me.

Petherick et al. broke the trail.
Although written about a hundred years ago, the ideas and technique are still used today by modern violin repair persons. Recommended for anyone who repairs stringed instruments.

Poor quality reprint of a good book
This book does not contain any of the many illustrations the the original did. Also, the typeset is hard to read. It looks a lot like a typewriter's typeset. The book itself although written in the style of 100 years ago does seem to contain good info. I'm keeping it now that I have it, but if I were to do it over again I would go with something else.

I wish it specified the best type of glue to use. Images would have been a great help too.

Hilfreich
