Sweet, thoughtful, and practical. This book gently teaches young boys how to welcome a new baby with care, patience, and confidence. The stories feel real, the activities reinforce learning, and the message keeps both safety and sibling love at the center.

Big Brother Book of Secrets is told in a gentle and compassionate voice. The story follows a young boy's journey of becoming a new brother to a baby sister. The story teaches with simple words, pictures and examples. It is written at a level that kids can understand. I really liked how there was a QR code at the end that led to the printable journal sheets mentioned in the book. It is a story that should be read to boys expecting a new baby to help with feelings of jealousy, confusion, and worry. It is more than just a story; it is a teaching tool to equip parents on how to explain these big topics with young children.

I picked this up for my son when we found out he was going to be a big brother, and I wasn’t sure how much it would really connect with him. To my surprise, it sparked some really nice conversations. The stories are simple, but they explain what’s coming in a way that feels encouraging instead of overwhelming. What I liked most is how it balances excitement with responsibility. It doesn’t make being a big brother sound scary or overly serious, but it does gently show how important his role will be—especially when it comes to helping keep the baby safe. Some parts felt a little idealized, but honestly that worked well for our situation. It made my child feel proud rather than anxious. Overall, it’s a comforting book that helps prepare kids emotionally, not just practically, for a new sibling.

The illustrations are lovely and calm, and the overall tone is reassuring. My child connected with the ideas and asked questions, which led to some really nice conversations. I do wish there were a bit more variety in the stories, but overall it does exactly what it’s meant to do.

I bought Big Brother Book of Secrets for a dear friend of mine as she is nervous and expecting her second child. This book is very cute, with great tips for parents weaved into stories for toddler kids to digest and understand. I loved the journals idea. Definitely try this book to read with your child when a littler one is on the way.
