Bent book with cracked CD-Rom
I wanted the book and I kept it so I could use it for work but it came pretty badly bent and the CD ROM inside was broken and unusable.

Not a Plug and play method. You have to read the book
This book is amazing. I am disappointed by the low reviews though. For those interested in buying this book let me explain what it is you can do with it.I am a provider for many youth in a group home setting. I also have my own kids. My wife is a teacher as well. During the years that I have used this book I will be purchasing the 5th one. I keep giving them away.First, the beginning chapters are to teach the adult how to do appropriate interactions with youth/students. Preventative, praise, and corrective are the three ways to teach the skills. The following chapters is content to be taught with these interactions. There is also common issues and ways to treatment plan for specific youth. This is great for individualize care / trauma informed care.So for a school teacher, they should read the beginning chapters on how to teach a skill, pick a skill to teach, present the skill to the student or classroom in a preventative interaction. As the students uses the skill, Praise them. When there is a mistake made use the corrective interaction. My wife used these interaction with her 2nd grade classroom. She taught the skill of raising hands, interrupting appropriately, staying on task, completing assignments, and many more. All of these are skills in the book.In a treatment/therapy/residential setting practice the skills daily in a preventative manner. Before youth start a therapy session review communicating honestly. The skill is broken down into steps and will include 'do not omit details or facts.' Practice a time or two and include doing it yourself as an example. Teach other skills like, controlling emotions or contributing to group activities. Use what ever skill the youth may need. Even have the youth identify one and work on it for a month each time you meet.In a family setting for younger kids put the skill up on the wall. Each day preventative teach to following instructions or accepting no. When your child struggles correct them and practice the skill for the next time.I have seen this used in all of these settings and it is a fantastic book. For more information on treatment environments check out teaching-family.orgFor school review garfieldparkacademy.orgFor family settings smarterparenting.comI have honestly seen this book work miracles. It is evidence based and there is more than just my opinion as proof.

Everyone should have a copy!
I worked for years at a public school for children with emotional disabilities that used this program. It is perfect for teaching the social skills we all need to function in society and be successful. It takes each skill and breaks it down into steps that can be taught and practiced. We used these steps with children from Kindergarten through 12 th grade. I used it with two Down Syndrome students at a Private school. It is great for any High School student getting ready to go out into the working world. It teaches the skills needed in handeling difficult situations faced when dealing with a boss, co-workers, customers, etc...

Youth
This book was ok but did not provide what I thought it would. As a teacher we like to see how the lessons are used, for instance lesson plans or graphic organizers.

Social Skills to live by
This book is one every parent and teacher should have on hand. Kids often miss out on these skills, and this makes it harder to know what to do in this world. This book will help give them confidence to survive in a world that seems to be forgetting the basics!
