Good book
I read this book to second graders during Red Ribbon Week. I thought it was great and the students enjoyed the story. I had the students do an extension activity where they completed the statement, "No thanks, but I'd love to..." Then they drew a picture to go with it.

No thanks but i'd love to dance
One of the best children's books I've ever read. Educational and entertaining!!! I feel my child is really getting a great message without me having to preach to her, She asks me to read it to her every night. Jackie Reimer is our new favorite author and we can't wait for her next book... Thank you Thank you Thank you :]

Great tool for anti-smoking lesson
Smoking is a stinky, bad habit. I grew up in a home where both parents smoked; I disliked it then, but had to live with it. Eventually, my mom stopped smoking (yay!) but my dad died from complications that undoubtedly were linked to his smoking. So, I am a huge advocate for using literature and other tools to teach my children to live smoke-free.No Thanks, But I'd Love to Dance! Is a 25-page book that teaches the consequences of smoking in a unique way. Belle is a 6-year-old girl who is best friends with her Grandma Bee. Unfortunately, Grandma doesn't have the "pep" she should and needs to use an oxygen tank. Why? Because she damaged her lungs by smoking when she was younger. She goes on to tell Belle how it only took one cigarette to get her hooked, but many years of trying to quit. Here's what Belle tells her grandma:"Grandma, if you would have never started smoking you wouldn't have ever had to try and stop, and then you would be able to dance with me now without getting tired so fast...(when offered a cigarette) you should have said, no thanks, but I'd love to dance!"This simple story is a great tool to address anti-smoking with your younger children. It's an important message delivered in a way your kids are sure to get.

Empowering and Inspiring Book!!!
As an educator and parent, I find this incredible book to be meaningful for all ages! It is a valuable addition to the classroom, library, and home. Belle and her beloved Grandma Bee have a special relationship and share many wonderful times together. However, Grandma's health is affected by the consequences of her past choice to smoke. Belle learns a valuable lesson and shows her courage by facing peer pressure and saying no to smoking. Belle answers, "No thanks, but I'd love to dance!" She inspires others to be strong and make positive choices in life. This powerful message to make positive choices is inspirational to us all!You will LOVE to read this engaging, well-written, and creatively illustrated book. The story will encourage important discussions among students and families about smoking, peer pressure, consequences, and life choices.Ms. Reimer, you are a talented writer! Great teaching tool!
The Beverly Fund Lung Cancer Foundation has ordered 50 copies of this book to distribute to educators through our Teach Tobacco Awareness program. This book is both kid and adult friendly. It depicts Belle, a delightful savvy six year old and the sweet relationship with her grandmother and their love of dancing together. It shows children that they do not have to succumb to peer pressure when it comes to smoking and it clearly sends the message that there are so many other things children can do instead of damaging their lungs by smoking. Also, it's a wake up call for adults who smoke and will perhaps make them think of their children and grand children like Belle and decide to quit. Love, love this book!

Delivers the message perfectly!
As someone whose father passed away due to complications caused by years of heavy smoking, I relate to the heartfelt message of this book. Without being didactic, or frightening, the story conveys a very important message in a candid and realistic way. I was touched by Belle's love for her Grandma Bee, and how her illness affected both of them.As a preschool teacher and former homeschool parent, I appreciate the educational value of not only the subject matter itself, but of the challenge words included and the free downloadable printables available. The illustrations are colorful and "light", which keep the message from being uncomfortable. In fact, the harmony between the pictures and the words create the perfect tone to present this very real and always timely message to children.
