This wheel really is the best around, ive tried plastic silent ones and although they are easier to clean they end up squueking after a while and they arent as sturdy as this wooden one. The base is heavy enough so that it wint move, however we still ise a small amount of bluetack on the bottem just to ensure it doesnt move. The medium size is perfect for a hamster! Lovley wheel, only downside are poo droplet stains, and hard to clean, but spraying it with a specialised rodent pet sray every few days, and giving it a good scrub should be fine! Hope this review helps someone considering buying!

Minky gerbil loves her wooden wheel! Was tired of replacing with plastic ones which snap after 3wks and wish I'd found this wheel sooner. Is SILENT apart from the sound of her tiny feet as she jogs, is well made and sturdy and runs really smoothly instead of clunking like the plastic ones.I am however getting some Plastikote spray paint (safe for animals)just for the edges which she has been knawing at - should slow down the wear and I'll just redo the paint when needed instead of spending £5 every 3wks on yet another plastic wheel. However, I've already had this wheel weeks and haven't got round to Plastikoting it yet and the edges are only slightly chewed and it doesn't stop it working! Even if I need to ever replace this wooden wheel with another wooden, I've still saved money over the long run, provided a smooth running wheel for Minky and peace and quiet for us!Just to add, Minky's back is not bent when running and she doesn't have to run at an angle, and she is a fully grown 114g gerbil who is not fat but a big build. Also Lucy who is much smaller build at 74g has no problems either running on this sized wheel.

Bought 6 months ago and read the reviews so knew to protect the wood with a non-toxic varnish. It worked well and is wipable, though my hamster tends not to use it as her toilet anyway. It looks better than a plastic wheel and the size it great to avoid hurting your hamster's back.However, similar to some other reviews on here, I have today noticed the wheel has blood prints on it, indicating my hamster's feet were splintered and bleeding. I will wipe down and add some more layers of non-toxic varnish to really smooth the top - it may be that after 6 months of use that the varnish was wearing off - but it really is not acceptable that this is a fairly regular occurance with owners of this wheel. In my opinion these should be sold for immediate use (i.e. ready-varnished). Users should not have to do extra work to stop this product injuring their hamsters.

I have bought a few of these wheels in my time keeping small pets, and it has yet to be beaten for silence, look and safety. There is no spindle for the hamster to bend its back around, or to get caught on. I have only had one problem with these wheels, and that was that it banged against the bottom when I first got it. Amazon quickly refunded that particular wheel, though. The only thing with these wheels is that they can get urine-soaked very easily, so ideally cover it with Plastikote paint (this is safe for small furries) before use. Obviously, being wooden, they can be chewed, but mine have never bothered and have chosen to chew their other wooden toys instead.

I have a large Syrian hamster who outgrew her ten inch wheel. This upgrade lets her stretch out and run for as long as she likes with no bend in her back. She tends to chew any plastic so this wooden wheel with no plastic parts is much safer than other wheels. If she ever manages to wear this wheel out I would definitely buy another one but it feels extremely sturdy and I expect it to last a long time yet.

This wheel is amazing, just be careful on the edges. It seemed a bit sharped and unpolished, I sanded it down a bit just so it's safer for the hamster.

Great sturdy hamster wheel, perfect for my little Roborovski in his detolf! The only downside is that the feet on the wheel can be noisy, I have a larger wooden wheel for my Syrian hamster and thats cork lined.

Was good but gerbil chewed through the holder bit so now can’t be use just a big chew toy! But gerbils liked it until it broke
