Very good quality wild rice at a good price
This is very nice wild rice. I appreciate continuing to be able to find American-grown wild rice. I was getting another brand until Amazon discontinued it. This one is just as good. They are full grains (not pieces or odds and ends), and packaged nicely for freshness. I got nine full cups of wild rice out of the four bags, so that worked out very well. I know wild rice isn't exactly cheap, but this is a good amount of wild rice for the money (I paid a little under twenty dollars for the 4pack). At my grocery store I used to pay about seven dollars for six ounces of wild rice. When I needed a cup of it I had to buy two of those little boxes, so it was way more expensive that way. At just over two dollars for a cup of (uncooked) wild rice, I cannot beat it. Of course, it grows considerably when cooked. What I do is to measure it out into one cup portions and vacuum seal each cup in its own Foodsaver bag, for storing in the freezer. This way it stays fresh pretty much forever and is not subject to air/oxygen, or anything else that could otherwise get into the rice. If I run out of freezer space, it stores just as nicely in the refrigerator. I imagine it would also store perfectly, if vacuum-sealed, in a cool cabinet. Dry goods like this can last forever if you are able to keep them away from air, heat, and bugs.

This rice is nice!
Don't think you'll use up all this rice? Think again. Whenever you make white rice, hold back 1/3 cup and use this with it. I use my pressure cooker for rice. I toss in 1/3 cup of this rice (with about 4x as much water as rice) and cook for 15 mins. Then I open it and add 2/3 cup of my white rice, add a bit more water, and cook it all together for 5 or 6 mins. more. I made this with a coconut water and plain water mix and added shredded unsweetened coconut, about 1/3 cup, at the end and mixed it in for a tropical summer salad base. You can add rice to small pasta (orzo for example) as a combo, like 'rice-a-roni.' You can add this to soups, stuffed peppers, etc., the list is endless...visually and taste wise, this just 'glams' up your plain white rice and brings it to a whole new level. If you serve this to company, they will think you broke the bank. The price is right and so is the rice.

Great Price
The wild rice arrived in a timely fashion and at $4.00/pound for wild rice, was also an excellent price. My husband and I love wild rice and I was very pleased to find a high quality product at such a good price point. I've cooked with this product twice since it has arrived and have been very happy with it's taste. I have no doubt we will go through the 4 lbs. that I ordered by spring and will order this product again when we run out.

Great price, fairly good quality
Great price, and flavor is fine. The grains are smaller, however, than I am used to, and they don't plump up as much when cooking. My guess is that the largest grains were screened out for sale at a premium price. This is quite satisfactoru on my retirement income.

Don't use a rice cooker..
This rice just arrived and I have made 2 batches already. The first batch I made using a rice cooker and chicken broth and it was awful! I used a half cup uncooked rice and should have had 2 cups cooked rice. I ended up having to cook it for over an hour and it never fluffed up the way the package said or the way the Joy of Cooking described (which incidentally uses the same proportion of rice to liquid). And it was way too salty--should have used low sodium broth. Then I made a batch using a regular pot--same quantity and proportion but using water this time, simmered on low. After 55 min. as the package described, I thought it wasn't quite cooked so added 1/4 cup water and gave another 5 min. It was perfect. I got about 1 1/2 cups of cooked rice out of it. I don't know why my rice cooker didn't do the job (it's fine for white or brown rice), but I recommend cooking the wild rice on top of the stove and putting the heat as low as you can (I use a gas stove). I also use a rice measure instead of a regular measuring cup and that may account for the lesser total volume. Regarding the notion of using less water rather than the amount on the package, I think that is individual taste. Some people may like the rice more crunchy, but in general, the kernels are supposed to open up and the rice is both fluffy and crunchy at the same time, at least according to the Joy of Cooking. As far as quality--excellent product for a great price! Thank you Amazon for offering this product online!

Wonderful!
This stuff is wonderful! Pure wild rice is really like nothing else. I've been wanting to try it for years, and the price at the grocery store (in rural, Western PA) was always insane for a little bitty box. I just ordered four bags of this about a month ago, and I'll need to order more in a week or so. It cooked just fine for me with the recommended water amount, though I'd recommend extra water if you're using real butter. (Mine tried to go dry at 20 minutes the first time I tried it!) Also, the time estimate may be really off for your personal taste. My preference is about 30-35 minutes, and to me, it tastes/feels the same as at 55. (Maybe my stove/pan is weird?)

Don’t overpay!
I have been using this brand of rice for years and love it. Shame on me for not shopping more carefully. My rice was delivered in a Walmart.com box. Turns out I could have bought it for a lot less money directly from Walmart.com. Live and learn.

Great Quality / Strong Value (comparatively)
Wild Rice adds a great dimension to just about any rice dish. Unfortunately, when compared to other kinds of rice, it carries a pretty steep price tag. Of course, wild rice isn't actually a rice, it's a grass seed that doesn't grow just anywhere and is rather labor intensive to harvest. As a result, it costs quite a bit. But if you're willing to pay the piper, Gourmet House delivers a consistently outstanding product. Price per serving-wise, the four pack price is tough to beat. Much better than you're going to find in a grocery store.
