IMPERIAL MFG. Fbg Rods - - Good product - - great price, too!
Ordered these Imperial fiberglass rods from Amazon to clean out my new stainless flue from the outside (with the polyester 6" brush) and they worked like a charm. I have a 27' flue, and I can stand at ground level, screw them together one at a time and go up through the bottom access panel and clean the whole thing in less than 15 minutes - - right into a bucket, and save a bunch on chimney sweeps - - best part, no climbing up on the roof - - sweet! But these would work great on a traditional cleaning from up on the roof, too. These rods seem sturdy enough, although I imagine their flexibility would be a problem if you were cleaning out a rough or uneven masonry chimney and it was very high. Anyway these were just the ticket for me and they were shipped right away, arriving safe and sound in less than a week. The threaded ends are fairly heavy duty in the thread department, and the threads worked smoothly, but since the threaded ends are crimped on, and of aluminum construction, one should be careful not to drop them on the ends or it may burr or bend the threads and/or adapter, just use reasonable care and these should last you many years. As stated, if you have a simple straight flue to clean these would work fine, but you may need to go with a heavier duty rod if your chimney is rough or has turns or is very high, as these do tend to flex sideways a bit inside the flue pipe. Overall, I couldn't be happier with them for my application, and I would highly recommend these for most folks.

Worked great!
I have an 8" round metal chimeny for my wood burning stove. It's basically L shape starting where it goes outside through the wall about 5' off the ground. Goes out the wall and then turns straight up about 4 feet. There is a 30" degree bend here for a foot or so, then turns straight up and goes past the top of my roof. Sort of like a hockey stick shape from the top down to where it goes into the house.Where it goes into my house is where my clean out is. Its goes up, does this turn, and then goes about 15' to the top. Total length is about 18. With one set of these rods plus a 8" round brush head, I was able to quickly clean out the creosote. I had no problems with the threads of each rod coming apart nor having them become impossible to get apart. I only hand tightened them all. The rods easily flexed around the bend in my chimney and I was able to get it all cleaned out with ease.Would recommend for anyone trying to DIY. Just be sure to get the right type of brush for your chimney.

Perfect amount of flex for 2 x 45 degree angle bends in my stove pipe
Worked great on my 6" black metal stove pipe. I was able to work from the roof, pushing the brush (bought separately) down through the pipe against the resistance of its own bristles. I have 2 x 45 degree angles in my pipe and these rods provide just the right mix of flex and rigidity to get the brush past the curves on both upward and downward passes. I was also able to turn the rods clockwise while dropping the brush down (it was tight but I was still able to do it by hand) to get a more effective sweep. The rods held up just fine and were easy to screw together on the downward passes and unscrew on the upward passes. I would highly recommend - much cheaper than hiring a chimney sweep every year.

It is the part that you can not do without if you are cleaning your own chemney.
It is a little stiff but worked fine and got the job done fast.

I just bought the correct size brush to go with and worked great. They will stick together so I would recommend ...
Exactly what I needed for my flue. Saved me a lot of money cleaning my own flues every year instead of paying a professional. I just bought the correct size brush to go with and worked great. They will stick together so I would recommend a light oil or some other lubricant on the threads before putting it together, just don't unscrew it while it is way down in the flue.

So far so good.
I paid a proffesional $150 to clean my 6" stainless flue and he was done in less than 1/2hr. I watched him pull the baffle out of my wood burning insert and I thought "well I could do that myself" so I purchased these rods and the poly brush and they worked great. My roof does not have a steep pitch so keep that in mind if you're going to clean your chimney or flue yourself and be careful! One more thing. As you are pushing and puling the rods up & down be sure they are staying connected to each other snug & tight so they don't detach from one another inside the flue. I also found it easy to start with the first rod incerted at eye level then attach another, push it down and attach another and so on. Hope this helps.

I read the warnings, but I was optimistic
I purchased two sets of these rods to help sweep the masonry chimney for the wood stove. Even after reading the reviews and understanding these would likely not suite my purpose exactly, I decided to go ahead. My chimney is about 40' tall and the fiberglass rods were only effective for the first few feet for pushing. They are just not rigid enough. Fortunately, the brush I got had an eye hook to tie a rope onto the opposite end. We ended up pulling the brush down the chimney and screwing the rods onto the end as it went, then just using the rods to pull the brush back up. I expect next year I will be using rope tied to either end of the brush and forgo the rods altogether.Perhaps if you have a short length of stove pipe and the brush fits loosely in the opening these could be beneficial, but as for me, I am now looking for alternate purposes for 40' of fiberglass rods with screw ends.
