Size not accurate - nothing 1/4-inch here - oops
I bought this based on the "1/4-inch" description, expecting (hoping) that this referred to 1/4-20 threads. Nope. this item has 1/2-18 threads. The diameter of the fibergalss rod is approx. 11/32-inch, and the OD of the female socket end is 5/8-inch. So, nothing 1/4-inch about this item [wrong; see update below].That said, the rod is very high quality; surprisingly so, for this price. It is also just as stiff and unbending as you might expect at 11/32-inch diameter fiberglass - this will not flex for going around any corners. I was expecting something thinner, with 1/4-20 threads.Update: I think I just figured out (from more searching for the correct size) that the 1/4-inch in this item description refers to 1/4-NPT (pipe taper) threads, which should be 18 threads per inch, and about 1/2-inch diameter (I should have measured the diameter more precisely, but didn't expect pipe threads!). my bad. I raised my review from 3 to 4 stars, but the description should be more precise.

Works well, but too flexible for my needs
I needed four of these to sweep out the flexibile 6" SS flexible liner for my wood stove. It is a straight shot down the chimney so I didn't need to turn a corner or anything. The first two rods were easy to push down but when adding the third the whole system got too flexy and it became difficult to push down the brush. The rods would flex and press against the liner so there was more friction and more compliance, making it difficult to progress. The fourth was even harder and I don't think a fifth would have worked at all. All in all it worked and was a good price, so I am happy with it, but if I have to buy new ones, I'd buy ones that are less flexible.

Only good to 8 ft of 6" flue
Two of these 4 ft 1/4" threaded extensions work great BUT, become flimsy and hard to clean a 6" flue beyond 8 feet. Either purchase a heavier stick than 1/4" or use another method of cleaning your chimney.

Decent product for the price
The product is as described, one rod is what you get. I also ordered some 3ft rods from Midwest hearth that were more expense but had a larger fiberglass rod. This gets the job done but isn't the best quality available.

I'd recommend this route when you just need that extra 2-4 ...
Exact same as 3-pack at the hardware store, but in a convenient 1-pack option. I'd recommend this route when you just need that extra 2-4 ft. Our chimney requires 4 to avoid climbing into it from the top. Has a fair amount of flexibility for these metal rods. This is useful if you know how to utilize it.

Worked well
I was tired of shelling out $300+ each year to have my chimney cleaned - how hard could it be? Quite easy - I measured my chimney diameter and picked up the corresponding brush size (Rutland 10" square Rutland Products 16510 10-Inch Square Chimney Cleaning Brush ) and 7 of these matching fiberglass rods (I only needed 6 for my chimney). Just screw the extensions on as the brush goes down. The last stretch of my chimney had an odd twist to it that I was not able to navigate, so I attached a rope to the other side of the brush and pulled it through from the bottom for the last little bit.

Rod for chimney cleaning
even though the rod itself was fine, I thought I was buying more then one! The description I think, was a bit misleading. However, it does fit my other rods and it was just the length I needed to finish cleaning my chimney.

great to add length to a kit
I bought one of these because I was afraid the 18' kit would be just a bit short. I was right. With this plus the 18' kit, it's perfect. As a side note, in case you're wondering, it screws onto the Rutland brush rods perfectly.
