Italian/Sicilian recipes inside/ a Book to treasure
The seller’s description of the book was accurate. I received it in a timely manner. Now about this book...It’s like taking a journey back to those special dinners that my family had on special occasions. And there were so many special occasions because my family is first generation Italians in the USA.Getting recipes from your relatives can be daunting when the measurements are “about this much..abut if this...”! So to actually have accurate measurements for the ingredients is wonderful. I still cook the traditional way ( a pinch of this..) but now I’ll be able to use this book to help the 2nd & 3 generations cook in the family way.The range of recipes is really impressive too. There are wonderful soup, main dishes, cookies, other desserts. It covers dishes from many regions of Italy.

My new favorite Italian cookbook ...
Usually, in a book this size, I'll find 10-15 recipes that look interesting enough to make me want to spend the time to prepare them.THIS book, however, is filled with recipes I can't wait to try. I've already made 7, and they've all been winners.I'm single, so it's not like I'm cooking for a crowd every night. But I do enjoy entertaining, and my friends seem to enjoy being "guinea pigs" for my culinary experiments. I let 'em know when I get a new cookbook, and we plan 3-4 parties based on it.The book is organized into menus which can help with planning. But there's no law that says you can't "mix and match" recipes from multiple menus. Each menu includes an appetizer, a pasta dish, a main dish with at least one side, and a dessert. The desserts are worth noting: they're all consistently good, and most general Italian cookbooks won't give you 52 dessert recipes. A HUGE hit with my friends was the zuppa inglese -- trifle with lemon pudding and pound cake: rum-splashed layers of cake, pudding, strawberry jam, and fresh strawberries, topped with whipped cream and a bit of lemon zest. I've done the pollo alla Vesuvio (chicken vesuvio) and manzo marinato (marinated flank steak) for company with excellent results. This is a seriously good Italian cookbook, well-organized, and full of mouth-watering recipes that your family and friends will love.

One of my most used Italian cookbooks, and I have over 25 on my shelf.
One of my most used Italian cookbooks, and I have over 25 on my shelf. Italian is my favorite cuisine, and at least 2x a year I do a 5 course, all homemade full-on Italian meal for my Italian husband and his 8 siblings and spouses. It takes me weeks to determine the right menu. This is the one I happen to zone in on most often. I like the composed menus, the variety, pictures and stories. Normally I'll pull at least 10 cookbooks down and comb through them... using a spreadsheet to keep track of the options by courses. This year I used this cookbook and two others. I didn't even bother pulling others into the fray. "Whatever Happened to Sunday Dinner?" is worth EVERY. SINGLE. PENNY.One Complaint:This cookbook literally fell apart. The binding is broken and the pages are falling out. I know it sounds like I use it every day and that perhaps I'm hard on my books. Nothing could be further from the truth. These are my gems. I am fiendishly protective of my books because they're like companions to me - my friends on my culinary explorations. The fact that this beloved book has fallen apart is a bit upsetting, but it won't keep me from promoting the contents.

A wonderful book for your collection
I grew up in an Italian household where Sunday night dinner was a big deal. As our family split up and my papa passed away, Sunday dinners sort of faded away. So, the title of this book immediately drew me in and I am glad I found it. The recipes are yummy and the photos are great too. As I read through many of the recipes, I had that old feeling of nostalgia and smiled as I thought of my childhood and my nana. The recipes yield a lot of food so unless you are feeding a small army, you may need to scale these back a bit. Wish I had more people to feed so I can use the book more, but regardless, I look forward to starting my own new Sunday traditions!

Caveat emptor
Generally a good book, but today I was looking for a recipe and noticed that my copy is bound without pages 115-130, which is where the recipe I was looking for is supposed to be found. It is not a problem of the binding or that somehow these pages fell out, instead the publisher bound it without these 16 pages. If you buy it, check to make sure that your book actually includes all of the pages. Other than that, it is a very good Italian cookbook.

Good, old fashioned Sunday dinners
After every recipe we’ve tried, it has ended up being added to our list of favorites, especially the scallops stuffed with pesto. They are made for a family to eat; a couple could have a few nights of leftovers easily from some of these recipes. Worth trying if you like Italian food!

Guess Who's coming to dinner! Everyone!
Love this cookbook. My latest hot recommendation and gift to give. Have tried 8 of the recipes so far and have yet to be disappointed. The interesting stories accompanying the recipes are dear. My only regret is that I did not photograph the selections I have already made; the cookbook has limited photos. But no big deal, the tastes are great.

Our grandparents must have known each other!
These recipes really work well individually and together as menus. They remind me of my childhood Sundays at Nona’s. Recipes for some cherished dishes from Nona’s and Granny’s kitchen I haven’t been able to find before are here, and work! Thank you!!!

Italian dinner at its finest
Lisa Caponigri waxes nostalgic for the traditional Sunday dinner, and provides a template which all can follow to bring it back into our lives. Whether following her menus, or taking the recipes individually, it is harder to find better Italian recipes anywhere.

American Book
I've been living in the land of pasta, pizza and good wine for the past 18 years and this book appealled to me as a fab present for my Irish mother. I thought it would be nice to have some homecooked Italian food when I make the trip home, without having to cook myself! In the end I ordered my own copy too!I find this book to be GREAT the recipes are the traditional ones as cooked here in Italy and I have made a few items for the Italian mother in law and my Italian family here, and they have all commented on how great, tasty and most of all traditional they were.It was great to finally have a book that doesn't "bastardise" the traditional aspects of Italian Cuisine and add unneccessary ingredients to already great and healthy food! It takes the traditional recipes, mixes them with some newer recipes to create great menus so I don't have to think for 3 days about what to cook for the infamous Italian Sunday Lunch which is still a big affair in my household and which is talked about all week.It has become a stable in my kitchen and some of the recipes have been translated into Italian and given to Italian friends who have asked for them! The only negative thing about this book? It's American, so you need to lose some time by translating the weights into metric but unlike most other American cookbooks, it does not require that you search for the strangest ingredients! All of the ingredients in this book you can easily buy at your local supermarket.
