Is this a thin, disposable tablecloth, like one found at the dollar store? Or is it a thicker plastic, that's durable and will last a while?

I found it sort of in between. It's not as easily ripped as the dollar store one but it won't last for years like some of the really thick plastic ones. We tossed ours after the party but probably could have used it another time or two if we had wanted to. I don't think it would have worked well as a permanent table cloth to last day in and day out.

Would this go well for round tables?

No, this table cover is definitely for a rectangle shaped table. We used it last Sunday on an island and it really added to the atmosphere of the party.
