I am an alcoholic with 23 years of sobriety. My entire sobriety I have been attending Alcoholics Anonymous meetings to great effect. At seventeen years the weight of my secrets and lies of omission began to weigh upon me very heavily. I was beginning to feel the same guilt, shame, remorse, and emptiness I felt before sobering up. A loving friend gave me this book and nothing has been the same since. That was 8 years ago. This book helped me to discover that my prejudice against all things religious had kept me from finding the solution that AA had been offering me the whole time. Emmet Fox has a way of cutting away the useless "stuff" and allowing me to see life, Spirituality and God from a different perspective. I have since offered this book to another "lost" friend, and he to another. Today we are all great friends with a working knowledge of our Higher powers.

I bought my first copy of this book so many years ago that I can't even remember when. I wore it out. Kids doodled in it, stuck stamps and stickers in it. The binding has been coming apart for 5 years. I wrote important notes and numbers in it because I knew it was the thing I would never leave behind. It's truthful and you can feel it. So here at Amazon I bought my second copy, and the print is so tiny that I have to put readers on to read the passages, but still worth it.

This book includes short daily reflections, taken from a selection of Emmet Fox's writings. Each day of the year includes a short Bible reference and the writer's insights flowing from that biblical quote. Often these insights shed entirely new light on familiar bible verses. Many of the daily entries are truly inspirational and encourage the reader to reflect on aspects of life in a whole new way. The book is very accessible and easy to understand. It is designed to be read over the course of a year, one page each day. However, it would also work if a reader wanted to open the book at a random page and reflect on that passage. I wouldn't recommend trying to read several days' worth of entries in a single sitting though... give yourself time to reflect on each daily quote to get the most out of this true gem of a book. As a source of spiritual inspiration, this book is probably in my top 5. I can see myself referring to it for several years to come.

I love this book it just explains spirituality and God consciousness so beautifully for a curious non believer to learn how to welcome a god into their lives
