Book 3 of a great series
I have read all three of the Riverhaven Years series. Author BJ Hoff knows how to get your attention and keep it. I ended up reading all three books in about 5 days. You won't be disappointed. If you like historical fiction with romance, mystery and add the Amish lifestyle too you have to read these books. Although the story takes place in Ohio which was considered a "free state" back in 1856 it brought in how the slaves escaping for freedom could not have succeeded without the help of those that were willing to get caught helping them make their way to Canada. The underground railroad was at work at this time and the Amish too helped to make this freedom possible.Rachel starts off answering her door to a black man who is practically carrying a white man who has been shot in the leg and is close to death. Rachel, a young widow, being Amish, knew she shouldn't let them in her home but at the same time couldn't send them away knowing the man that was shot would probably not live. The story proceeds from there to her nurturing the man back to health with the help of the "Englisher" doctor and how this man they call "Captain" works his way into the lives of the Amish and especially into the heart of Rachel. These books tell of pain and heartache and the rules of the Amish. People seem to want the Amish to leave this peaceful Ohio area as barns are burned down, animals are stolen, vandalism of property and even death. Will they find the answer to whom is causing all the trouble? Book 2, "Where Grace Abides" takes you further into their lives and Book 3, "River of Mercy" brings you to a conclusion and ties up all the stories and lives that weave together. I thought I had figured out who was causing all the trouble but in the last pages I found I was very wrong in my conclusions. You will even go on journeys with the escaped slaves as they travel their road from one safe house to another being led by one of the "conductors" to the underground railroad. The dangers they and those that helped them faced from moment to moment.Enjoyable reading.

River of Mercy
I loved this entire series and hope there is another sequel! After reading the first book, I dove immediately into the second one. I was so hooked on this series I went crazy trying to find the next book. I can't tell you how many hours I spent researching every little nook and cranny trying to find any information I could about it and also the writer. I was consumed by this story/saga... Having read thousands of books since my recent change in life style due to medical issues - I read 24/7; and I can honestly say this series was by far the best and highly recommend it to everyone! The only complaint I have is that that the author, B J Hoff, took so long to get the 3rd book done.,

River of Mercy
BJ Hoff always writes a terrific story. Her characters come to life, you almost feel like they are your friends. She shows the growth of the friendships and how the heroine or hero of the story growns in their faith and the struggles that everyone has in their life. However, the Amish's struggles may be alot different than yours or mine but they are just a real & can be just as true or heartbreaking. The best part is learning to lean on God in all things.

Good story with excitement and suspense
I loved the relationships of the people in this story. The suspense of whether or not the two main characters were going to get together had me on the edge of my seat through most of the story.

Great trilogy conclusion
Good wrap up to all loose ends. Heavy suspense and kept one guessing. Deeply personal. BJ Hoff does well and gets inside the characters. Interesting insight and different from most Amish lifestyle books I've read. Enjoyed the very credible corporation of Underground Railroad involvement that would be a seemingly easy and very noticeable aspect of Amish life at the time. They seem to easily keep to themselves.

True love waits.
I love the characters in this novel series. How many of us would wait so patiently for that true love. One of the antagonists was somewhat surprising. I don*t always read Amish fiction, but you have to love these characters..

Completing my Trilogy
BJ Hoff is one of my favourite authors and I realized I did not have a copy of this last book (I think) in this trilogy. Her writing never disappoints and she will definitely remain a "must-read".

Excellent!
I've been waiting for this book to complete the series. In the middle of reading it. Sounds good, but have forgotten a little since it's been a long time since I read the first two.
