Circle Round: Raising Children in Goddess Traditions

Everyday reference
I look in this book almost once a week at least. It’s full of ideas that are simple for the everyday parents who have their hands full but still want to create a magikal experience for our littles to cherish and grow in. It’s modern and traditional with stories that have been rewritten for our littles to understand better in todays era. I absolutely love this book and all my pagan mamas/ parents have enjoyed glancing into it as well.

So excited!
This was recommended in a Goddess Mom’s group and I’m obsessed. All of the traditions, songs, crafts, and so much more make this book easily usable for all ages! We get to use what we find best, and can learn about or skip rituals we are not planning to do. The illustrations are gorgeous, and it’s been super fun to learn and read more.

Get it while your kids are little.
I bought this book years ago when my kids were growing up. Loved it so much, I bought a copy for my grandkids mother. The grands deserve to have it too. It's got a whole lot of great stuff that's easily doable.

Terrific tool for practicing Pagan parents!
As a Pagan family that wants to teach their children about the Goddess, God, Wheel of the year, and esbats this has been such a wonderful tool to have; the authors did an amazing job of retelling all the sabbats and stories to children, mine have really grasped on to it.

A Good Start, but Seriously Lacking: I wanted advice, not a history lesson
I would recommend this book for the stories and the recipes. It gives a wide variety of stories for the Goddess has many faces in many cultures. There are some neat recipes (one of which I am in the process of making at this moment). It gives descriptions of each Sabbat that are kid-friendly. There is also a portion dedicated to involving your children in your rites, but never forcing it upon them. However, there are some areas in this book that leave you confused, unanswered, and even concerned. The glaring example of this is when they bring up the issue of children being teased or even harrassed for their faith. I expected some tips on helping your children through this time of crisis, but I did not expect a long diatribe on Pagan oppression. Yes, instead of answers you get a history lesson on the Burning Times. I'm sorry, but I don't feel that will help a child deal with being ridiculed.Another section that seriously concerned me was when they discussed sexual activity. Another reviewer has expressed her concern over this area of the book and so I will not speak long on it. When it discussed love-making, it gives the impression of "the sooner the better." One can see the problems with this so I won't beat a dead horse. All in all, it was a great beginning, but seriously needs re-vamped. Perhaps one day we can be graced with a seriously revised Second Edition.

Thought provoking, helpful, and grounded.
Having read several reviews for this book I bought and read it in conjunction with Celebrating the Great Mother: A handbook of Earth-honoring activities for parents and children. I personally found this book to have ideas that can be used for a wider age range than Celebrating the Great Mother. I liked the inclusion of stories from different cultural backgrounds and enjoyed comparing how Starhawk reiterated them to fit a more Goddess centered tradition and the modern Neo-Pagan mindset. I also found the section on the life cycle to be helpful in inducing me to think on rituals in that regard. Finally, I liked that this book focused more on activities that I felt even a skeptical child could participate in. Some of the activities in Celebrating the Great Mother felt a little too "New Age" for me whereas I felt that many here were more "this worldly" and could still be appreciated by children who aren't interested in "magic" as being a family or community "tradition."

One of My Favourite Books
I don't have children and this is one of my favourite all time books it is my bible and staple in the craft. I use this during sabbats specifically for the gorgeous stories and mythology included. Great craft ideas and diy makes. I adore this book. Story writing is great and information is useful. Wipes the floor of all of my pagan books. Starhawk is one of my idols.

Amazing book!
What can I say... WOW!I was put off from buying this book at first because even though I am a practising pagan, I myself don't have any children yet. I thought that because I don't have any children, then I would not enjoy this book and the information would not be applicable to me.. WRONG!This book is applicable to everyone! It is a fantastic source of information that can be used in anyone's practise whether you have children or not. It is beautifully written and has lovely artwork and I couldn't say enough good things about it.If you, like me, do not have children this is still an amazing source of information, its packed with stuff about literally.. everything. I especially liked the sections on the sabbats, they give so much info, recipies, activites and stories. One things for sure, when I do eventually have kids, this book will definatley be a great help when I teach them about my path.Blessings Starhawk, Diane Baker and Anne Hill, you have written an amazing book!

Brilliant
This is one of the best books for pagan families that I've read - it's incredibly well written, informative and level headed. The stories and activities that go along with the sabbats are just lovely and exactly the kind of thing I was looking for - it's even nice to read as an adult and will definitely go on to read some of Starhawks other books.

Excellent ,packed with info and things to use
I have found this book invaluable when planning celebrations of the festivals. There is a wealth of stories to help children understand the wheel of the year and I used the beautiful First Blood ritual for my 12 year old who loved it.A real treasure and heirloom to pass down.
