Vostok company story starts back in 1942, when one of the Moscow watch-making plants has been evacuated from Moscow to a little town Chistopol located on the Kama River. Defense equipment was the only company output during war years, but as soon as the war was over Vostok started to make mechanical wrist watches - the main production item ever since. In 1965 Vostok company was appointed an official supplier of watches for the Defense Department of the Soviet Union. This year marks the creation of the world-famous "Komandirskie" ("Commander") watch. Military watch grew very popular even with people who were unaware which end of the gun bullet comes off, mainly due to high precision, excessive reliability and durability. The appearance of the watch also contributes to its appeal - functional and clear-cut design invoked the feeling of belonging to the tough world of combat professional. The experience which Vostok gained through development of the army watch was the foundation of our next special watch - "Amphibian". This impressive timepiece in stainless-steel case endured the depth of 2000 meters - kind of a wrist submarine. Success of the professional watches determined the company's present philosophy - to create mechanical watches maintaining precise timekeeping at any temperature, in any environment, surviving heavy pressure and blows. The viability of the chosen strategy is now time-proven. A vast multitude of people both in Russia and abroad boasting "Vostok" watches and various international prizes awarded for high quality and commercial success testify to this. In 1996 Vostok started a partnership with US "Capital Trading" company aiming to create a new generation timepiece. The watch assembled to US sales by Sputnik TM technology.

well made and unique
Great watch for $50, has a very vintage feel, things you should know- watch is hand wind not automatic so every day you need to wind it until you feel it get tight then stop, do not overwind! case is plated metal like many vintage watches, acrylic crystal like many vintage watches, low beat movement 19,800 bph aka 5 ticks per second like many vintage watches. The crown is strange, has a very loose feel but is actually a clutch mechanism to reduce stress on stem when winding or if you were to drop it. Once you pull the crown taught it feels more normal. Build quality is great 👍🏼 dial is a beautiful blue that starts lighter in tone at the top and gets gradually darker like the ocean, has Russian submarine on dial along with the Vostok logo. Bezel rotates both ways and no clicks. (Not a dive watch) stock strap is kind of stiff, I put a gray NATO strap on it. Lug width is 18mm but I crammed a 19mm on it. 17 jewel mechanical hand wind movement.Great watch! Seller sent really good Russian chocolate 🍫 with watch!

Good solid Russian watch
This brand was popular for its high quality back in 80's and 90's as I remember when I lived in Soviet Union. Here we are 2021 and it still is awesome.Bought this watch as a gift for someone and have been testing it for over a week or so.Winding it up and checking on its accuracy. So far, so good. If I stay consistent like instructions say, and wind the watch up every 24 hours, then it keeps working and is accurate. The metal border with numbers does spin unlike many cheap brands these days. The back of the watch looks awesomely Russian too.I like this watch so much, that now I'm thinking to buy it for myself too.

Simple, casual looks with some russian heritage
After reading a lot about the Vostok watches, how good they are even though they are cheap, their soviet era looks and how long they last I decided to get this "komandirskie". I have small wrists so the size of the case was appealing for me. So far I've been using it a lot, you need to wind it everyday because its reserve is small but isn't really annoying. Like other users mention when you adjust it the first time the crown and its shaft feel wobbly, not solid, like its broken but it's made just like that for some reasons. The band that it comes with its the only bad characteristic of it feels cheap and probably won't last long if used everyday, however there are plenty of leather bands and nato straps around to customize it. That's why I gave it 4 stars. Added bonus: seller sent a nice Russian chocolate in the box that was delicious.

Almost 3 years later I still live this thing!!!
I bought this almost three years ago as sort of a novelty. I mean, it's a watch designed by the former Soviet Union. That's pretty novel. It's never had any problems and since it's mechanical it doesn't need batteries to be replaced (I have a $450.00 Bulova that literally eats a battery every 6 months). For the price it's well worth it. I'm considering getting another one or modding out the one I currently own with a new face, hands and strap. My only complaint is that the date can be time consuming to set, even if you use the trick where you wind backwards to 9 o'clock and back to 12. But that's not enough of a drawback to keep me from giving it 5 stars and to want another one. :)

Love this little thing
Bought this because I wanted a casual beater that would be more interesting than what you find at your local supermarket, and so far I love it. It's a great conversation piece and just makes me smile to look at. My one complaint is that the crystal is domed and scratches VERY easily. The flipside of this is that it is supposed to be a Soviet military watch, so it really just adds to the charm. Also it runs about 20 seconds fast a day but it's a $50 mechanical watch from Russia so what can you really expect. Definitely recommend for anyone looking for a cheap and fun watch.

Stopped Working After 6 months
It is a good watch for the price, but it stopped working after roughly 6 months. I kept it in my drawer for the remainder of the year after I bought it thinking maybe it's a fluke, but nope, it is broken. I wind it and the second hand does not want to spin.

Good for watch collection
For $60 it's actually a pretty cool watch the band completely sucks though. I mean definitely not a deal-breaker or anything like that but definitely cheap. Takes a few moments to learn how to wind The Watch, but once you figure it out it's pretty easy the only big complaint I have is that it doesn't have a quick set for the date. so if you leave the watch for a week or more it's going to take awhile to correctly set the date since you have to constantly keep turning the hands forward until the date switches. but once again it's a really cool Conversation Piece and it was only 60 bucks.
