Very Pleased With This Purchase
For the past eight years or so my music system was one of the Bose Acoustic Wave units. During that eight year period I became increasingly frustrated when that unit would fail to play all my CDs.Finally giving up on Bose recently when none of my discs worked, I began to research a lower priced alternative and settled on this Toshiba model. And, so far, I am more than thrilled with my purchase. On the plus side all of my CDs play on the TY-CWU700. I don't listen to the radio all that much and the enclosed FM antenna works fine for me. Having Bluetooth capability which enables me to listen to my Walkman without ear buds and also works with my TV negating the need for a sound baris a major plus! The USB port also comes in very handy if you have a lot of tunes on a stick.Initial set-up is fairly straight forward as to setting the clock and pairing the Bluetooth with whatever you're using it with. Another thing I like is that MP3 song information can be displayed on the front panel and that the clock three brightness settings. May not seem like much but it is appreciated.Make no mistake though the Bose did sound better – a fuller sound for lack of a better way to put it. But this Toshiba unit comes pretty darn close with enough bass and volume to satisfy most people. There aren't bass/treble controls but what Toshiba offers are five pre-set EQ settings so the listener can choose one to their liking. My only complaint so far – and it is a very minor one – is with the remote control. It works up to about 15-20 feet for me but it must be pointed directly at the unit. If you're off to the side or pointing it too high or low it may not work. A reading of the instruction manual is a must as there are some controls on the remote that are not main unit and some of the buttons on the remote serve more than one purpose.Bottom line: Five Stars for the TY-CWU700. Worth every penny.

5 Stars if Sound Quality is the Decider
I wanted to give this all-in-one player 5 stars, but there a just a few things that make it not intuitively easy to use. Normally I’m one to read the users manual before anything, but I felt like a music player is something I have a lot of experience with, so I jumped right into using it and then ran into these obstacles. First, you have to turn it on before anything will work. Seems like a minor issue, but it kept throwing me. For example, if you hit the tray open button for CDs, it won’t open until you first hit the power button and then the tray open button. Once it’s on, it’s on, but I must have some memory from past players just activating with any function, so I’ll have to get used to that. > The buttons on the unit itself are small and shiny, so they’re hard to read. I had to bend down and get close to it to see which buttons were which. > The buttons on the remote are also confusing. There are many functions controlled by the remote, so there are many labels on it, but some are over the buttons and some are on the buttons and some are beside the buttons (with no color coding). It’s just not easily clear how each of them works. For example, “SLEEP” is written over a button and “TIMER” is on the button, “AUTO” is over a button and the stop symbol is on it…and what is “FOLD+” and “FOLD-“? You’ll probably have to open the manual to figure out the remote. > I couldn’t get my iPhone to play using the USB cable. I didn’t get far enough to figure out why, though (maybe it’s not supposed to), but I just opted for Bluetooth and that worked. > This last thing might be nit picky, but the clock display is weird (see my photo). The time shows as AM/PM 00:00, and not 00:00 AM/PM. I did an internet search and I couldn’t find any country that writes their time with AM/PM before the time, so I don’t know why they made it so on this unit, but I can’t get used to it. There is a 24 hour clock option, but I wouldn’t get used to that either. > Regardless of my complaints, I love this player. The sound quality is excellent and has no problems filling my apartment. I also love the vintage look and the size is just what I wanted, big enough to be a focal piece on a tabletop, but not be a huge sound system. It is a little more expensive than what I initially wanted to spend, but after reading through reviews, I took a chance and I’m happy with my decision because for me, it’s definitely worth it.

great for the price
Worked great out of the box. I would get an extra for a grandparent or older person as It seemed easy to use. Sounded better than expected for the pricepoint. I had a Klipsch bluetooth speaker in my office that went to another room and this is the replacement. Obviously, this is no comparison on sound quality but it did so well I am going to keep it in the office. You dont even notice the CD tray as it is hidden behind the logo.Dislikes: buttons and nobs a bit cheap plastic chrome looking feeling but work well, remote feels like I have to aim it well for it to work so far, I dont see how to tune the radio so far without the remote....but i probably need to read more. It would be nice if it came with an antenae .....Likes: price, looks good on shelf, nice to have a CD player as an option if you want to pull out a cd from your archives, Blue Tooth seems to connect fast once set up and set up was pretty easy. Like the USB port in the front in case I want to stick a thumbdrive of music in….cd of mp3s works!
