30 Christmas Carols with Sheet Music and Fingering for Tin Whistle (Whistle for Kids)

Is it flutists or floutists? I couldn't afford to buy gifts for all the members of my family this Christmas, so when i was looking for pennies in the couch and came across my penny whistle i thought I'd learn a few simple carols and give a little concert. I found this little book in a search for tunes online and it was exactly what I was looking for: simple Christmas favorites with tablature. I played the classical flute when I was younger. Without that foundation, I think trying to work out how hard or soft to blow into the whistle could be frustrating. Most Americans familiar with the season's standards would recognize about 70% of the songs in the book. From those familiar titles, 30% of the music is written using melodies or notes familiar to Irish or European ears. Without a background in music, a new learner would be confused, I'm sure, even though we're mostly dealing with quarter notes in 4/4 time. For my purposes, this book was perfect. It has inspired me to take my instruction to the next level. I am once again enjoying the satisfaction of creating a solid, lovely note with just my breath and covering a particular sequence of keys with my fingers.

Looks like a great selection of songs. My first complaint is that it's for a two-handed instrument but has to be held open to read while practicing, so good luck with that. I can jerry-rig something, probably, but not happy that I have to. Also it came shipped in a padded envelope, which protected it from scratching and "breaking" I guess, but not from bending. With such a thin book, I wish they'd had a stiff cardboard insert included to keep it from getting bent and wrinkling the cover.

My 10 yr old was able to sight read most of this music. Great book to prompt a new pastime.

I am enjoying the songs in this book. There are 30 songs and an available download of audio files to hear what the songs should sound like. Each song has the treble clef, diagram or tablature and words. My only complaint is that this book is not a lay flat book.

My only complaint is that this book is a bit small. I mean the dimensions of the book are something like 7"x9" or so. The problem with that is that the text is small and it is hard to get it to stay open. Other than that, I like it.

Beginner here and this was pretty easy to play and follow along with. I enjoyed some of the music in it.

This book works well with a glass flute as well as a tin flute!

It is very good in the sense that the tunes are easy to play and there is musical score with whistle tabs, so if you are a bit iffy on reading music it can help you to learn. The down side is that some of the carols must be specific to Ireland because I couldn't recognise them and I am a UK church goer of 45+ years. These tunes were unknown and hence it was almost impossible to play them as a beginner. An experienced person that could read music would be able to play them but not a beginner unless it were possible to hear the tune first. Overall it would have been better if all the tunes were the standard generic carols that were well known.

A terrific little book of carols containing the most popular and a few less-known. It is presented attractively and is easy to read. I have reduced the star rating by one as a reflection of the price which, ideally, should be a pound or two less.

Great wee Kindle book. Easy to follow and clear.

I must admit, I soon abandoned these books for learning by ear, and am coming on nicely, but I shall certainly return before next Christmas for the basic fingering and inspiration. Worth the money.

Would have prefered the text in a larger font size. Happy with carols
