Kula Shaker's first 2 albums with single Hush and extra tracks
I really like Kula Shaker from the 1990s and this is a great collection of their first 2 albums K Peasants, Pigs and Astronauts along with their cover of Hush which was a number 1 hit along with b-sides and live tracks.Great Hosannah is absolutely brilliant

The first two albums + bonus tracks
This two-disc compilation from the budget label Demon Music, released in 2007 to cash-in on the band's comeback, contains all of the tracks from Kula Shaker's first two studio albums: 'K' (1996) and 'Peasants, Pigs & Astronauts' (1999), as well as ten, previously released non-album tracks (including live recordings), chalking up to a generous 36 songs in total. One of those bonus tracks is the band's excellent cover of the classic song 'Hush', which rose to number 2 in the UK charts in 1997, but was never included on a studio album.I have always enjoyed this psychedelic rock band's unique sound, which is a combination of then fashionable Britpop/rock, and Italian flavoured music. Although their sound is original, there are strong similarities to The Beatles, Jimmy Hendrix, early Deep Purple and Pink Floyd.Whenever I listen to the landmark 'K' album, its always a great experience, like going on a journey, and best played in it's entirety. In my opinion, apart from few exceptions, it contains most of the band's best songs, including the hits 'Govinda', which is perhaps the most psychedelic track on here, the brilliant 'Tattva', and 'Hey Dude', which has a killer-riff. The cool rocker 'Knight On The Town', and the simple yet beautiful Beatles-like 'Start All Over' weren't singles, but if they had been I imagine they would have gone onto become big hits also. The two-disc set is rather basically packaged, but still comes with a skimpy booklet containing a brief biography with information taken from the official Kula Shaker website, as well as a nice colour photograph. However, it's the music which is the most important, and with two full studio albums and some very nice extras, 'Tattva: The Best of Kula Shaker' serves up an excellent 'catch-up' to anyone who missed this interesting, enduring band the first time around.PS: I have since read that the band Kula Shaker have asked their fans not to buy this unofficial compilation, but I hope they'll forgive me, I bought it second-hand at a car boot sale, before I discovered that the band had been against it's release. Ah well, I already had the studio albums anyway.

Music not the problem
But the inlay reminded me why Kula Shaker never got too famous. Man, they were an instantly dislikeable and ugly bunch were they not? I've been to India mummy and I'm going to start a band with my other friend Tarquin and Oscar and it'll be really eastern and mystical. No-one could ever bring themselves to be fans, they were just so hard to like on any level. If you think you remember the music and quite liked it back then, you will like this, there some good pop songs on there. Govinda and Tatva, of course, being so art student Indian themed it'll make your teeth itch in embarassment.I hope they found another way to be successful and fit in. Holiday reps for aging hippies or something.

Not really a "best of"
Hardly a best of album, it is the first two albums in their entirety plus a few bonus tracks. If you have the first 2 albums don't waste your money on this.

Great Album
Although I have the previous Best Of this album has a lot more tracks on it - well worth getting even if you do have the last one. There are several live tracks too and for the price you can't really go wrong. A definate must buy for any Kula Shaker fan!

Indian influenced neo-psychedelia with a truly mystical, magical quality. Never got the recognition they deserve as one of the classic bands of the 1990s..

Unentdeckte Juwelen
