Got this to make simmer pots, adds a distinct smell. Smells like black licorice

I bought this to make Mulled Wine on our winter camping trip. I have made 2 batches of Mulled wine at the house before we go, just to make sure of the recipe I want to use. Mine came mostly whole, not a lot of break-up of the pods...and they are pretty fresh. You can smell the Anise (licorice) scent throughout the house and in the Mulled Wine itself. I use 4 Pods per bottle of wine and warm it all up for about 2 hours. I also bought some Cinnamon Sticks and Whole Cloves that I use with a little orange peal and fresh Stevia Leaves for a sweetener. I am diabetic and Stevia is what I use to avoid sugar. Fresh Stevia leaves look like tea leaves and is much better than Stevia Powder. Anyway, out of all the ingredients I bought for the Mulled Wine, I am most happy with the freshness and taste of these Anise Pods. They are really good. Recommended. - Steve

I want to say I love these , and shortly after taking it I started feeling better. Someone stated in a review they started Feeling ill after using this product. Do your research if you're taking meds, talk to your doctor first , do not soak for extended times or over boil these as that increases the strength/concentration of the good compounds in it. Also do one star (2 at the most , once or twice per day but no more) per 8 oz cup , and don't soak it for more than 5-10 mins. The only thing about this product that I do not like is that it doesn't list the scientific name Illecium verum (the Chinese anise) which would set me at ease knowing I have the good anise. There's another similar one , the Japanese one but that one's only good for decorations and such, but really bad for teas and for you. I hope if you buy this product that you find it as beneficial as I have. I also checked the entire contents and found no spiders, mold or webs, as some reviews stated . I hope my luck holds and this continues to be a positive experience for me. Wow, these smell amazing and are fresh and good quality!! I originally bought them to add as a decoration on top of handmade soap but they smell so good I am also going to use them for tea and cider as other reviewers have mentioned.

You get alot for the price. 1lb will last a long time.
