Yule: A Celebration of Light and Warmth (Holiday Series, 2)

A Christmas Gift!
I purchased this book for my nephew who has been studying Wicca over the last year. He absolutely loved it. I have no reason to disbelieve him as his nose has been constantly in it since I gave it to him a little before Yule commenced. He's happy, so I'm happy.

A Must Have Yule Book!
The amazing Dorothy Morrison’s Yule A Celebration of Light & Warmth is packed full of great information regarding Yule. She talks about its history, symbols, traditions, omens, world customs, and yuletide trivia. Dorothy is better than Martha Stewart as she not only includes recipes for a variety of foods, drinks, and desserts, but she also includes crafts you can do alone or with kids. She possesses a lot of them as she includes decorating the Yule tree, how to make a Yule log, and several different spells and rituals. Dorothy guides you on how to make your own personal traditions, and this book contains a daily event calendar for the entire month of December. It is an older book, but it is the most complete book about Yule out there! I highly recommend Dorothy Morrison’s Yule A Celebration of Light & Warmth for your Witchcraft and Yule book collection.

Great Book
Love this book! It offers a wide array of celebrations around Yule, as well as other holidays from different cultures in the month of December. There are stories and rituals that touch on this wonderful time of year. I love all of the crafts, from the dog collars to treat fleas in a natural way, as well as pomanders. The crafts take up quite a bit of the book and are very well thought out, giving just the right amount of help so you can complete the project. I love the recipes, the layered dragon cake is so lush and chocolaty just absolutely decadent. There is also recipes for wassail as well as what the original intent of wassail was, very interesting. Mrs. Morrison's style of writing is relaxed like she is talking to a friend. The book is wonderful to read and take notes later. Or you can use it for a quick reference. I was head of the Sabbat Committee for my local group and I fell back on this book for ideas. It is worth the money and I recommend getting it. Anyone working their way through the wheel of the year, would enjoy this as well as the other books in this series! All of them are great.

WIsh it was longer
I enjoyed learning the history behind many Yule and Christmas traditions and symbols. I just wish there had been more as there were so many others I had questions about that didn't get answered. The food section is great for something to make other than sweets and the craft section for kids was a nice surprise. I would recommend this to anyone who wanted a 'taste' of what holiday's December brings and a brief history of their origins. It did leave me wanting more and will have to find other sources to fill the void.

Great Knowledge
An excellent book which not only gives different ways of celebrating, but also a great history of the way different cultures celebrated. I had originally taken this book out of the library and found it so good I had to own it for myself!

Full of Inaccuracies at the Beginning
I wanted a simple book to share with my kids so that they could easily explain to their friends what holiday we (Wiccans) celebrate in December. However, I’ve never been able to finish the book because every time I start, I get stuck on some factual inaccuracy. Last year I found the chapters on all the Yule symbols that been appropriated by Christianity and their origins fascinating... until I looked them up. Freya, Odin, and at least one other Norse god(dess?) had been used interchangeably in one part. (Just one example)This year I got lost in the distraction of the hot mess that was the brief description of Kwanzaa. How can so few sentences be so wrong?? It claims that Kwanzaa is an eight-day celebration and that the kinara is a candelabra with eight candles. Ummmm... no. It’s a seven-day celebration (December 26 - January 1), and the kinara has seven candles (three red, three green, one black). Even if I wasn’t an African-American who had been celebrating this holiday for as long as I can remember (I am), these facts could be easily checked via Google.I’ve asked my Jewish friends to fact-check the Hanukkah section before I send my kids down the wrong path.It is absolutely possible that once we get to the actual pagan matters that this book will be 100% factually accurate. However, I may never know because it’s hard to stop ruminating on how much is wrong at the very beginning of the book. So I’m going to stick with Laurie Cabot and throwing together resources found online.

Wonderful addition to the library
There is a lot of great information in this book. Pagan or not, this book will give you insight on the holiday, traditions and the entire season. I highly recommend adding this to your library if for no other reason then to glean as much knowledge from it as possible.

Not a serious book on Yule
I don’t want to trash this book. It’s just there is practically no spells in it. I was looking for some guidance to do group rituals at Yule. This was more like a Christmas Book. Come on, the word Yule comes from paganism, not Christianity. This has no meat to it. Nothing to guide you in doing serious rituals.
