Very sharp, clean cut. I wish they had more taper
I am reviewing the 1/4" plug cutter. I used a new 1/4" Fisch wood bit to cut perfect holes. Unfortunately the taper on these is very slight, and the plug is only tight in the hole at the very deepest part of the plug. Therefore you have to cut a full plug, and lop off the small end of it to get a good plug my holes which were only 5/16" deep. For future projects I think I will use my Fisch 6mm drill bit and plug them with these. That way I can hammer them in with the mallet to get a tighter fit. Ive used premade wood plugs and they had a much more aggressive taper which I prefer.

Sharp bit, great plugs.
Cuts smoothly and quickly. I used this to cover up some screws in an ipe fence. Why but ipe plugs when you can cut your own for a fraction of the price from your own scraps? Better match, better fit, and you'll have the plug cutter forever. Well, this plug cutter has four sharp teeth that make quick work of ipe. For those of you not familiar with this wood, it is much harder than oak, and is notorious for breaking bits and dulling saws. I cut about 50 plugs with this bit in a drill press and the last one went as smoothly as the first. The plugs were perfectly tapered, which allowed for a tight fit despite some variation in the hole size.Would buy again. Highly recommended.

Cuts fast, clean.
Good plug cutter for the price. I cut 48 plugs from Qtr sawn white oak and it worked like a charm, although I did pause halfway through for a minute to clean up and let the cutter cool. This makes a lot of chips. It has a shallow taper so the plugs may need to be around 5/8" long. A band saw or even a hand saw works better for releasing the plugs than just snapping them off.

Great performance
Worked great on some exotic hardwood when I needed to make some screw plugs.

Cut beautifully for the first plug or two
Cut beautifully for the first plug or two, then smokes and binds. The biggest problem, however, is that the plugs need to be minimum 3/4" long to snug up in the hole left by my 3/4" forstner bit (The widest part of the plug is cut by the deepest/inside part of the cutter, and therefor the grain you want to match up is actually buried inside your plug stock). This means your countersunk hole needs to be about 1" deep minimum unless you chop the plug in half lengthwise.Just a total pain in the butt to use cutter and resulting plugs which are not nearly tapered enough. For accurate grain matching there is no other way to go, really. But otherwise I would be buying factory made 3/4" tapered plugs.I've used a 3/8" plug cutter before with excellent results, so I'm not sure if it's just this brand and design, or what...

Little taper
The package arrived very quick! I’m using the bit to plug holes in a timber truss. The bit is nice and sharp and drills great in white ash hardwood. The only problem is that the item is supposed to be tapered although it does say less than 1 degree taper. When I made the plugs as deep as possible about 5/8” and held them end to end there is hardly a noticeable difference in size. The plugs do fit into a 3/4” hours le but not very snug. The holes I’m plugging are high in the air do it works but I would prefer they have more taper

Works as intended
Essentially a basic tool. A cut above regular plug cutters in terms of the results for your finished work (no gaps!), though regular cutters are of a different design. A fine cutter, but wondering why the name Fisch commands such a higher price than similar tapered cutters out there. The quality of the metal used? Hmmmm... not sure.

Works, but not a good cut
It does cut plugs, but leaves a tougher surface than I would like

Good cutter
Fisch is not cheap but this is the break point for good quality. Cheaper ones do not cut cleanly.
