Eye opening & life changing!
It's shocking that this book was written in 1984!!! There are so many timeless truths in here. I bought this book expecting to find information that was restricted to the 4 seasons but got much more out of it. I found it very wholesome. It's definitely a life changer in terms of understanding [your] style. I've understood concepts I knew subconsciously, I've learnt more about my body & style, I've understood what I'm doing right & wrong, I've understood why some things just don't work even when I continue forcing issues & I've acquired vocabulary that'll help me explain a few concepts to my friends. This book is a must read if you want to understand yourself & your style 😉

Great book to understand what color to wear and why some colors just do not work next to your skin
This is a must have to understand what color to wear, even though the style of dress and makeup is TOTALLY OUTDATED!!! But for a good laugh. But, this book is essential as far as the technical aspect of choosing color to wear...This book is a great book to understand and enter into the market. I bought the whole series and read them from cover to cover. This is not for the advanced student, but the beginner.I also think that fashion designers should have a thorough understanding of color theory, which is really not taught that much or well. It is also a very complex subject to learn and understand.BUT!!!!!There is hope!!!if you want to know about Color theory to get even better....COLOR WORKS, the crafter Guide to Color by Deb MenzFOR ANYONE who wants to know about Color Theory this test breaks it down so that ANYONE can understand this subject. I learned more about color theory in this book than all others put together because I now "Understand" the concept. While this book is for the textile artist, ALL artists should get it and is also has cut outs to use when choosing your colour palette whether it be for Fashion Design or Art.This book is a MUST HAVE!!!!

40 years late--Still the BEST advice for Looking Your Best!
First bought this book years ago, and it explained some things to me--''Why didn't that outfit look good on ME!" Read it, learned it, remembered it and have shared it with friends and family! It reduces your shopping time because you can eliminate racks of clothing that AREN'T in colors that flatter you. Reduce time dressing, because you're coloring will be flattered by what you put on. (Sometimes the lights in storescan mislead you on what shade a color is--I look good in true red, or blue red, Not in orange or tomato red.And if your family remembers you'll be happier with gifts and have fewer clothes to return to the store.

A good standard reference, helpful and meaningful advice
As a middle-aged transgendered woman, I know I do not fit the standard reader. But I found this book immensely helpful in discerning subtle color issues I had been guessing at. Ms. Jackson speaks to the reader in a quiet yet directive way, guiding the decisions to find colors best suited in clothing, hair and make-up. This book exceeded my expectations in providing nonjudgmental guidance toward understanding my own coloration and to developing a "feel" for my true color nature. I recommend this book to anyone who feels challenged by all the palettes and textures and cuts available in today's world. Though written years ago, her sensibility toward style seems timeless. I got lost a couple of times in her wording, but realized I was just needing to reread to get her meaning. I felt very empowered by this book and believe other inexperienced girls like myself will be as well.Best wishes, paige

Where it all started
I had this same book back in the 80’s. I bought this for my daughter because she was wondering what type of “season” she was and wanted to expand the colors in her wardrobe. The book is a classic, but the principles are what the consultants use today. The book gives you the tools for the fraction of the cost. Although the experience may be what some look for, seeing a consultant, it’s totally okay. Not hating, I just know this book will not fail you

This book gives great guidance for picking the colors that will enhance your natural coloring.
Instead of going shopping and trying on everything, this book shows us how to choose our best colors. It is not a new book, but it has changed my life. My makeup and clothes accent my coloring now and I feel well-put-together like never before! Please try this book, I recommend it highly!

Useful but Outdated
Color Me Beautiful was written in the 80's, bearing that in mind, the book is decent. It offers the basic color pallettes for the Winter, Spring, Summer, and Autumn seasons and helps you determine with season is yours. It offers basic wardrobe information and ways to help you organize your closet and shop for clothes that fit your body type. However, while reading this book, one must keep in mind that the tips are from the 80's. If you want a more modern book, this isn't for you. If you know how to take this information and turn it into more modern advice, then this is a great deal. If you are going to purchase this book new, rather than used, I would say you can find better more up-to-date books for the prices. However, if you purchase it used, it is a very nifty books that you can get some basic color analysis information from and save you a bit of money.
