A few useful activities, but...
This is the first review I've written for Amazon and I only felt compelled because of how poorly edited and put together this book is. Yes, this book has several useful activities and notes about DBT. However, the composition of the book is really shoddy. It looks as if slides have been copied from a mishmash of Powerpoint presentations to make a book (there is a reference to information "in the next slide" in one of the paragraphs). Information -- whole pages-- is repeated in separate sections of the book. Other information seems jammed together or totally disorganized. Many of the activities have not been adapted to, or are totally irrelevant for, children and adolescents. And the writing is poor and poorly edited. Here's a helpful paragraph: "Teaching stress tolerance takes many forms. As counselors, we need to teach stress tolerance to children and adolescents." (p. 116)In short, if you are desperate for some activities to practice DBT with Children and Adolescents, this book will suffice. But if you can find this information somewhere else, bypass this book.

Exactly what I needed for school. Great resources that I think I will continue to use in my practice. Yay

Another good primer
Working with teenagers who are somewhat self-aware helps when employing this resource into treatment regiments. Highly dysfunctional and disconnected personalities will have difficulty engaging with some of the activities and explanations in this work. Altogether not a bad starting point for creating solutions to the problems the persons we serve present with.

DBT - school aged students
First I like the concise format of the Risk Assessment Form. Secondly, I am a strong advocate of Beck's work and value any text that references his ideas. I work with young students and adolescents. There are a variety of strategies that can be used quickly without reading the entire book.

Most of the exercises are too advanced for adolescents, and pretty boring. The exercises for kids are primarily emotion regulation skills exercises. If it weren't for the few exercises for kids, I would think that this was a book for working with adults and the 'Children and Adolescents' on the cover was a misprint.
