The good news is that they're excellent
The bad news is that you'll never be able to go back to lesser, cheaper, more readily available sardines. These set a standard, and you're unlikely to want to settle for anything below that standard in the future.I'm serious. I've had sardines here that I couldn't even coax my cat into eating. When I open a can of these, the cat climbs my leg. When I'm done, she wants the can so as to lap up any smidgen of olive oil that remains. Since when is a cat thrilled to get a taste of olive oil?* * *May 3, 2019, update: If you like sardines, you'd might as well order via Subscribe-and-Save. These are less than $3 a can that way, which is a notable bargain. You won't regret it.My brother lives in France, and he fancies himself to be a gourmand, a "foodie." I don't fancy myself to be much of anything, but I dearly love good food. He and I both like sardines, and when he travels, he buys sardines wherever he is. A few years ago, he brought me a huge variety of French, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese sardines while on a trip back to the States. All were extraordinary by usual standards in America. These are in the same league, and I strongly recommend them. And no, I don't work for Matiz. I don't work for anyone; I'm retired. But believe me, you'll get pickier about food as you age. Ask any waiter at a high-end restaurant. So I'm speaking from a picky perspective. Unapologetically.

These are 5 star quality sardines
These are probably some of my favorite sardines. They are absolutely 5-star quality sardines. The reason I gave 4 stars is for the tin can. They are VERY hard to open. The first two I opened, the tabs broke on me. Every single can after that has been hard to open but I was able to figure out the trick to not have the tab break off. Open the tab fully, then when you start pulling back, pull back leaning to one side. Once you get that one side to start coming back, then you can start pulling straight back. They are still hard to open but you shouldn't break a tab again.

My all time favorite sardines
The tiny sardines are just delicious plus relatively low in calories and high in calcium (check the label). They come packed in a small amount of olive oil and a piece of Spanish sweet pimiento. This type of sardines is considered a premium product, which means the price is going to be higher than for regular sardines, but they are worth it. I have ordered them twice.

Salty and inedible. Newest batch awful 2028
I got two 12 packs of sardines that I have bought many times in the past I enjoyed. This last purchase included two batches and beware. I didn’t try them right away because I had a few left and then the 30 day return policy passed after I opened the new batch and then tried the other with the same disgusting results. I contacted the company and they never replied. I will continue to reach out to them. The oil was pale orangish red color not clear and the sardines were beyond salty and the other batch they were weirdly soft in texture and less salty. Buyers beware. I’ve wasted over $80 and will not support Matiz if they continue to ignore my complaint.

They are so very good
I wish they had 4 oz like most sardines cans. They are a delicacy. My favorite sardines and flavor! And I tried many sardines brands. Do not hesitate to buy them
