Garden Anywhere = The Thrifty Gardener
I bought this book for my girlfriend as a birthday present. She absolutely loves it. It has great pictures and every page looks really nice. The only problem is that it is the exact same book as The Thrifty Gardener, which my girlfriend also got for her birthday. We had to return one of them. Would have been handy to have this information before ordering so hopefully you read this review before purchasing both books. I guess the different name and covers is because they're from different publishers, but everything else is exactly the same. Same author, same size, same pages, same information on each page.Great book though. Sorry I can't give any deeper review other than how it looks. It hasn't been read yet, but the book is loved for how pretty it is, so even if the content turns out to be useless (which is unlikely) it'll still be a good book to keep. :)

Great common sense instruction by a gardener who isn't afraid to get her hands dirty
Clear directions and photos that are easy to follow by a real hands-on gardener. This book is no slick garden design book. It is strictly practical advice and instruction for backyard gardeners like me. Excellent investment.

Needs a Different Title
Not impressed. I'm moving into the city and would like to learn more about gardening in small spaces. This book taught me that, yes, I can plant small things into small containers and that if I want a real garden I will have to find a bit more space. If you already know this, don't buy based on the title. Its good points are its charm, full-color pages and photographs. The latter are also a bad point. There isn't much actual content. I didn't learn anything new, and as a beginner gardener I find this to be rather sad. It's a nice book to look at, and even a nice read(I enjoy her writing,) but not good for learning. Her most helpful hints are dumpster diving/re-purposing, and how to pick out plants at the store. She also talks more than I would like about natural garden design. Which I won't have room for.

A Favorite!
There are hundreds and hundreds of gardening books out there. There are hundreds and hundreds of strategies for every aspect of gardening from sowing seeds to composting. But, Alys' Garden Anywhere is by far one of my favorites. The style is practical, hands-on, money conscious, and simple: from her advice to head to the grocery store for seeds and starting material to worm bin construction instructions. The guidance is specific, brief, and shouldn't be overwhelming to a new gardener and while I've gardened for a while I still love her book. Chuck full of pretty pictures too!I highly recommend this book as it covers so much material in less than 200 pages without missing beat thus providing an excellent foundation in gardening.

Great Read for Beginners with a Small Yard
I enjoyed this book so much, I read it in one day. I would say it's more helpful for people in apartments with at least a small amount of yard to work with, so those without may not find this as helpful as I did. I love that she's all about being creative with the ways you can make your garden. I can't wait until spring to get started on mine - this is helping me so much to prepare.

Great advice, especially for container gardening
An enchanting book with great pictures and unusual methods for getting the most out of your space. I especially loved the ceramic composting chicken and the beautiful recycled box gardens.

Good Book
Overall a good book, and in good condition. I only wish I had known ahead of time that the author was British. While a good bit of the gardening info was understandable & usable, there were a few words and terms that I had no clue what they were. I would give a higher rating on future purchases if book description included author and/or publisher location.

A gardeners dream!
I love Alys Fowler! This book is not only beautiful to look at or be display on the coffee table, it is full of so much useful knowledge to the avid gardener. It is a great book! Very high quality too!

Quite disappointed. Unwittingly purchased the version published for the American market - are they quite unable to cope with the correct spelling of COLOURFUL and other words which inexplicably get changed when they cross the pond? And was irritated to keep coming across "dollar store" and "dumpster" all the way through it. The book reads flat, could have been written by a robot, no personality comes through. This aside, it is a collection of very ordinary tips for growing in various containers, nothing new, nothing particularly interesting at all. This will be given away. A very reluctant one star.

Fantastic book full of inspiration
Fantastic book but do not buy if you have “the thrifty gardener”. As this is 100% the same book with a different title!
