Designer Knits: Sarah Hatton & Martin Storey: 22 Handknit Designs for Him & Her

I purchased this book to make some a couple of the Sarah Hatton designs for myself and with the hope my guy would choose one of Martin Storey's pieces for himself. Alas he finds the men's designs either too feminine, or too bold (mind you some doing some mods of a couple of necklines and colour choices may change his opinion). I also wouldn't mind seeing a photograph of each garment not on a model, like Brooklyn Tweed does. I find when trying to ask my guy if he likes a pattern he can not focus solely on the actual garment, he forms his judgement based on the model and the way the garment has been styled for the photo shoot. I have noticed other men do the same. I may actually make one or two of the men's garments for myself -- for example the Aran cable sweater with a modified collar.I would advise anyone thinking about buying this booklet to check out the patterns included in it via a google image search first. Also the book does not contain schematics for the garments which I feel is an omission. One other criticism of some of the garments in this book and of contemporary knitting patterns in general is the number of jackets and cardigans which are designed to be worn open at the front and lack a method of buttoning or otherwise fastening, and thus rendering the garments less functional.The photography however is lovely and adds to the pleasure of the pattern book.

The patterns were not as complicated as other books.

The designs are a bit above my skill level, but I think I can get there. Can't wait to try making something.

A fine book but typically, not too much that I would wear. Great, though for knitting gifts for others.

Exquisite photography, charming settings, intriguing designs that only go to extra large. Would be a 5+ stars if more variety of sizes

Absolutely beautiful book. Building on tradition and adding details that bring newness to every design. Also a wonderful inspiration.

i like the designer, Martin Story. His cables are fantastic.

There are some interesting patterns but I was slightly disappointed as I was looking for morewu unique patterns for the experienced knitter from Martin Storey.

Not as many patterns I wanted to knit as expected. However I am pleased with the ones I used and the level of difficulty matched my reasonably good skills and the patterns were a bit more fashionable than many others available
