Quite Effective
A few strokes on this rod brings the edges back to where I need them to be. I have an affinity for Japanese products, especially tools and kitchen gear, because they are manufactured well and do what they are supposed to do. This is no exception.

Works
I highly recommend this ceramic sharpener. Easy to use, I've brought life back to scissors, PVC cutters, kitchen knives, and camping knives. Use a leather strop after and the knives will be shave sharp. If your blade is too far gone use a stone or diamond sharpener to repair, then use the ceramic rod and you're set. This is now my favorite way to sharpen

A nice stick with an uncomfortable handle
The sharpening portion of this rod is good. It does what it should and it works with my blades. It's a little more porous than some ceramic rods (meaning like a more coarse grit sandpaper would be) than some of the smooth rods I own, but it's a nice addition to my arsenal when it comes to maintaining an edge. That said, the handle is pretty rough. Mine had flashing and molding marks that dug into my hand, sharp edges and the handle is, in general, too small for my medium-to-large size hands. If you have big mitts, this thing will not be for you... fortunately, mine are not oversized. I took some sandpaper to the handle (which reminds me of the old Bakelite material) to smooth it down. It's slick and edgy, but this helped with the sharp edges. It does not strike me as a high-quality manufactured device. The rod portion is great, but the handle is the cheapest of the cheap.

It's a little short for everyday use
This is a really great little ceramic "Steele".I bought it to replace the one in my knife roll that's too big, unfortunately this one is just a little bit too small. If it's for occasional use or you have space issues this is perfect but if you're using it everyday I would like it to be a couple inches longer. That being said it's exactly as it was described.

Cheap
It came apart the first time I used it.

Awesome sharpener
I own more sharpeners than I can count and have given many to family and friends. I have low end and high end. I have stone, ceramic and diamond. This is the one item I needed most; and it didn't disappoint. Solid construction and perfect size for every day use and field carry. The sharpening surface is 1/2 inch diameter by 6 inches long and has a perfect handle. I tried it out on the most difficult blades - kukris. Absolutely the best sharpener for these curved blades period. Kukris aren't supposed to be razor sharp. Mine are. This is a must buy; and I'll probably have to order more just because I never know to whom I will give one for a present. Get one. You won't be sorry. Made in Japan. What more can I say.

Not as fine as advertised
I got this ceramic steel because I wanted something compact to keep on the line during service. I also wanted something with a grain rated closer to my sharpening stones, as to not undo my hard work on the stone. This steel will hone your blade, but it feels rough to the touch, and I fear that the grit rating on it is much lower than advertised. It works in a pinch on the line, but I much prefer my MAC ceramic steel.
