Nice All-purpose Camp Knife, but my first one failed
Update 1/1/19: Taking off one star (5 down to 4) for the following reasons: My first knife wouldn't close after a few weeks. The lockbar wouldn't move, but Amazon replaced it. The second reason is that -- as another reviewer suggested -- this knife is really made in China. Nowhere on the box or knife does it say Made in Germany, although it does have the manufacturer's name on the blade. The distributor also ships directly from China, so that's a major clue. I consider not marking the product "Made in China" on the box or knife is being less than completely forthright with consumers. If the replacement fails I'll update review accordingly.***********Yes, I know this is for camping, but it's so well-made that I use it as home for slicing cheese, cutting cake, pizza, steak, and any reason I can think of because it's so comfortable and cuts so finely. I think it works better at cutting steak than a steak knife if you have a high-quality cut of meat. Serrated steak knifes are to saw through grizzle, yes? This slices lean meat like butter. It's also the most comfortable knife I've owned: I have very large hands, so the unintentional side effect of a wide handle to conceal the folding blade makes it a pleasure to use.

Great kitchen knife when away from the kitchen
I got this to use as a kitchen knife for car camping. Most of the time, it lives in a drawer with my other lunch utensils at the office, where I use it as a steak knife. It's large and heavy, so it's not ideal for an everyday pocket knife or for backpacking. There are only a couple of things I don't like about the knife, so I'll start with those. Some of the corners of the handle are uncomfortably pointy, so they could easily wear a hole through your pocket. I filed these down, so it's not really a problem, but I would have appreciated it if they did this at the factory. When the blade is in its closed position, it's almost open. The blade is easy to open, so I would feel safer keeping it in my pocket if there were some spring pressure or a locking mechanism to keep it closed. Here are some things I like:* folding...don't need to worry about cutting or puncturing other items in your camp box* long blade* long handle* blunt tip...probably less likely to stab people as they run around in your camp kitchen* locks open* opens with one hand* suitable for chopping, mincing, and slicing...does most of what you would expect from an 8" or 10" chef knife* not too slippery when wet* sturdy* easy to sharpen the entire length of the blade* no rust after maybe 100 washings in warm soapy water

Beast
This knife is a beast. Check the specs before ordering - it's quite large. Haven't had a chance to completely put it through its paces, but it appears to be of good quality. Time will tell.Update - Did some serious chopping tonight. Really a nice performing blade. Oiled up the handle a bit with some mineral oil, and it looks great. Good purchase.

good quality
Knife is very nice looking and feels like it is high quality. It is very hard and comfortable to use. Its kind of one of those Jack of all trades master of none kind of things. its sizable and heavy so I could never really see myself taking it camping but its also a folding knife so its not super sturdy like a one piece blade which makes it a not great choice for the kitchen. All in all it is very nice looking, very sharp, works well....

Stan the Man Reviews: Folding, Locking, Camping "Japanese style" Knife.
This is high grade camping gear and fairly large. Despite being called a Japanese knife, it is made in Germany and looks agout as high quality steel as you can get.It locks when open and opens fairly easily. You unlock it by lightly pressing the little flange of metal at the base of the blade inside the groove of the handle. The thing is very sharp and is a little bigger that I expected. Nice for camping, backpacks, cargo pockets, and fishing boxes though you need a pointed knife to fillet a fish. Regular pockets? May be a bit large. If you do carry it, I would put it "point" end down so when you fish it out the blade does not open inside your jeans.High Grade.

Nice. But not high quality.
The knife is basically as pictured. The blade is sharp. The blade does not swing out freely/smoothly. The resistance is not unreasonable, but there is a bit of grinding/coarseness to it. The edges on several of the metal parts (other than the blade cutting edge) are a little sharp and could have used a bit of attention knocking them down.I am happy with the knife, though. Perfectly reasonable for the price.

Decent blade but roughly finished
I bought the knife for cutting exotic fibers (dyneema and others) and it does well at that. The only large issue that I find is with the finish quality of the blade. The blade is at best, roughly finished.
