Best Friends: The True Story of the World's Most Beloved Animal Sanctuary

I read this book before actually visiting Best Friends and am glad I did. It gave me insights into the sanctuary, and I recognized many of the sites mentioned in the book. I also liked having a greater understanding of the sanctuary's mission from the book, followed by seeing it first-hand.

While I read this book as part of my assignments for the Best Friends How to Start Your Own Animal Sanctuary course... I got so much more. Initially I was inspired at the commitment, but what held my attention was the deep devotion to doing what it takes to truly help animals. Best Friends set's the stage for what is truly possible when you are creative and collaborative in everything you do. I gave the book to my mom, and she couldn't stop reading it... so I know this isn't just for people in the animal/rescue/sanctuary world.

I highly recommend this book.It is full of ideas for folks already helping animals from rescue groups to shelters, to just animal lovers in general. This story will make you laugh and cry . . . and wish there were nothing but animal sanctuaries like Best Friends all over the world and especially one in your neighborhood / city.This story tells us how we can help and co~exist with our animal brothers and sisters in a healthy, loving manner. This story gives me hope. Every person wanting to interact with animals, dogs and cats in particular, from an animal companion, to a volunteer, to a vet and every spot in between across the rainbow should read this book because there is much information in it and it is a very good, factual story.Please give this book as a present to every child seeking to become more involved in their pets' care and who might want to further their education in the wonderful world of our beloved animals.Thank you <3This is how it is done, Folks!!! wonderful!Held me tight turnout.I know the "unconditional love we get from our own adopted Rescued dog who had been hit and kicked and heaven only knows what before being rescued with 40 other animals and recomend to every one they adopt rescued animals.I've heard "experts" say dogs (and cats) don't remember. HOGWASH!THEY DO REMEMBER! Our beloved Belle - border collie/shepherd mix is the smartest dog I've ever seen. Get facial expressions tell us so much.Now nearing her time to go over that Rainbow Bridge, we consider every day spent with her as a Gift!If I were young, I'd go to Kanab to work for these awesome folks.Bless all of you!

I am an animal lover. This book about the humble beginnings of what is now one of the largest and most beloved sanctuaries for animals in the U.S. is riveting from beginning to end. Brilliantly, humorously, poignantly written, this author allows us to know the wonderful men and women who had a dream and sacrificed to bring it to fruition. Each remarkable person is etched in my memory, and each dog, cat, rabbit, written about will have a place in my heart forever. I am thrilled to know that Best Friends is thriving and continues its mission to provide a safe haven for each pet brought to them, and to raise the awareness that every life is valuable, worthy of love and safety and life. I highly recommend this wonderful book.

People always speak of a pet's unconditional love for their person, but this book is a story of a group's unconventional love for all animals. I have always been an animal lover, but the people who created the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary truly live what they preach. I loved the way the stories, of many of the animals, were woven together to create a detailed and amusing book. I have already been recommending this book to my personal friends, visited the sanctuary's website numerous times, and will continue to seek out ways that I can make a difference. We can all benefit from reading this wonderful book!

I enjoyed this book from the first page on. I had heard about the sanctuary, being an animal lover, but I never really knew all they did. The work and sacrifice of the people who started this sanctuary is amazing. I now know what is happening to assist all the animals they rescue. I hope to visit the sanctuary next summer when I am in Colorado. It will be a several days trip, but one I am looking forward to.

"Best Friends Animal Sanctuary" is the most fantastic place on earth for animals. I visited there and I expected it to be fantastic, but it far exceeded my expectations. This book is a must if you are an animal lover and if you know about "Best Friends". It is the story of how it began, with a few friends pooling all their money to start this wonderful sanctuary for animals.

Loved this book. The care that goes into making these animals a place to call home is to be admired. I will read this book a second time before I go to Utah to volunteer with these beautiful animals for a week this spring.
