Just what I needed

This is a "thinking drummer's book" - filled with challenging ways to spread the fundamental rudiments across a jazz drum kit. You will likely need to really spend serious time working these exercises to truly internalize the concepts involved and to get yourself to creatively apply the ideas behind leveraging rudimental patterns across the various kit pieces. This book gets you into the right spot - and ANY Morello book is an essential library edition just because of its author! - but the real work comes with what you do with the concepts, not simply playing the particular examples in the book itself. Enjoy!

Expect to spend a lot of time on this one. These exercises are not easy, and I usually have to camp out on individual exercises for a long time before they sound right.This book is not a necessity; a lot of the exercises involve crossing your arms across the kit and bouncing doubles between tom-toms, so you can definitely get by without this stuff. BUT, if these kinds of things interest you, definitely by the book!

Joe Morello wrote a number of invaluable percussion books, based upon a rudimental approach to learning. Rudimental Jazz applies that same approach using a drum kit. These are not 'how-to' books. You are provided with initial rudimental-based exercises with the expectation that each learner will apply them creatively to their own playing. Practice hard and think. That was Joe Morello's message, and the way he patterned his own extraordinary playing.

Good book to gain control of you kit, not only for jazz. Exercises to practice rudiments all around the kit. Fundations to get out from your snare and travel in your fills around toms and your full kit.

This book had long been out of print, but available again. If a drummer studies it, and plays the exercises, that drummer will improve. The book is "no frills." There is no DVD, very little text. One must simply work on the sticking and orchestration around the kit to benefit.

Anything by Joe Morello is designed to make you think about what you're playing on your drum kit. Lots of interesting ideas that can be used creatively

Great book that has been reissued but unfortunately the publishers have decided not to include media CD or downloadable audio which was included with the previous version. Totally incomprehensible and criminal. I sent the book straight back.

You have to thank Joe Morello for taking the time and putting so much effort into this amazing jazz drum tutorial. It is superb. I have had it for two days now and my playing has improved already... the exercises are not 'easy' which means you will need a modicum of knowledge in terms of reading drum notation but that said it wouldn't take long for anyone who loves playing to get pleasure from this book. It will take me years to go through it all and between you and me I honestly can't wait, I should have purchased it a long time ago...it's never too late. So...wherever you are now Joe...a big thank you!

Bel libro e spiegato molto bene anche se in inglese, peccato non si possa stampare, perchè le parti scritte si possono ingrandire invece le parti di musica si vedono ma non si possono ingrandire come la parte scritta e allora a volte si fatica un po' a leggerle, perchè almeno per me sono scritte un po' piccole anche se si vedono.Comunque sicuramente un acquisto consigliato!!
