I Have the Right to Be a Child (I Have the Right, 1)

Something EVERY American Kid should read
IF you are reading this parents, your children should know about this legislation that protects them. I dont know why you would be against your children knowing what is normal to expect as a child. It is bad for a child to grow up thinking it is normal that they do not have food or that growing up with abuse is normal.

Weak content.
I feel that this cannot be easily understood by children. I was given enough information about this book before ordering. I liked the artwork, though.

Absolute trash, unless you hate your children
Easily one of the stupidest books I’ve ever read. Not only is the self-righteous list of apparent rights uselessly utopian, if I needed a waste of paper like this to educate my kid about human rights, it would say far more about my inability to discuss real issues and the complexities of life, even with a very young child. But if that wasn’t enough, the needless America bashing at the end about how we have not signed onto a treaty which isn’t worth the paper it was written on, I mean come on. Syria signed this crap; Saddam’s Iraq signed it, right after committing genocide against the Kurds and using children as mine detectors on the Iranian border. Need I say more?

Used it in PSHE
Lead to some great discussions. What exactly are our rights as children? Are all children entitled to the same rights? Do they receive them? Why?Out of this came a discussion as to our responsibilities as world citizens, and as members of our own community.Whilst it may appear quite basic, it is a great source for detailed and in depth discussions.

Don't bother if you are looking for actual information!
Really, really disappointed with this book. Yes it covers the rights of child, but each right literally in a sentence or question over a two page spread (17 words over two pages in one case) It is pretty much a children's picture book - the art work is lovely but there is NO other information. Nothing noting the statistics showing why each right is required, nothing on which countries achieve these rights and which fall short, and nothing about the measures in place to try and achieve the rights. I don't believe it to be a good resource.

A TIMELY REMINDER!
So clear and so well illustrated. This is a timely reminder about the rights of all children to be children while the world around them becomes even more chaotic!

Delightful book. I bought it for my granddaughter who is nearly 6. She loves doing things with me and discovering words. She goes to a multicultural school.
