Soutar Practice Chanter Reed

I don't know if this is a problem with damage that happened after manufacture or what, because I have had a soutar pipe chanter reed and found it to be of good quality, so that's why I thought I would try this. But this is one of the worst practice chanter reeds I ever played. Not one of the notes is true, with the C especially, and the whole high hand, being way out. I guess you could ignore this if you were playing by yourself, but with a group at practice? No way. It's really bad and I would return it if it wasn't such a pain for such a small item.

Works well for what my needs.

This reed is more on the quiet side however that's exactly what I need it for. I will use it for practice at night or at work and not bother anyone. Plastic is pretty durable as far as reeds are concerned anyway. Pretty forgiving too! Hardly ever squeaks or cuts out unless playing to forcefully.

It worked fairly well, EXCEPT that I couldn't play C, AND It came Broken!

I've been using some another named brands of practice reed for many year. This is the first time I tried this. To my surprise although it is cheaper but compared with the other reeds it could be play easier... you don't need much strength to blow it.

Great reed, I purchased it for a Roosebeck Rosewood Practice Chanter and it fits perfectly. Little air movement needed to produce quality sound.
