I don't know how to explain how much I love this book
I don't know how to explain how much I love this book. In fact, I need Max to come explain my love (and my 5yo's) love for it. But, I'll give it a shot. This book is a hilarious, punny, alliterative take on a routine trip to the grocery store. But, I have a feeling nothing is mundane or routine with Max.He makes every part of the task seem like an adventure from picking the right cart to picking the right food to picking the right route. Max and his mom have a realistic relationship, with roles that feel familiar to my family. My 5yo has memorized it after having the book for less than a month. That's pretty high praise. Can't wait for Max to explain everything in his next book!

Super fun book!
My seven year old LOVES this book. She thinks it is hysterical. After a year of checking it out from the library on a very regular basis I decided it was time to buy a copy. She was overjoyed to get it for her birthday.

This book is very funny for kids and adults
This book is very funny for kids and adults. Who knew the grocery store could be this hilarious? I absolutely loved the illustrations as they were bright and modern. The mom and cereal aisle were standouts.

Cute story, I guess, but not a good example for kids
The pictures are cute but Max is not the kind of kid I want my kid to emulate. He’s not a likeable character. He is whiny and manipulative, and begs for multiple things at the grocery store. My mom didn’t raise us with the mentality that this is OK. We were raised that you don’t beg for things and you do what your parents tell you to do and you don’t try to manipulate your way out of things. One could say this is a children’s books and not made to be serious but I certainly don’t want my kid to think this is okay.

What Every Family Needs for the Grocery!!
Max is a great explainer! I can imagine using this book for fun, for instruction about many learning elements, and to talk about budget/choices. This is one that children will want to read again and again. And there's a lot to explore in the fabulous illustrations too. This belongs for sure in every early childhood kitchen set-up!! Buy this one for your special little shopper!
