Anger
Well written, no disputing this. Don't care for violence preluded by torture. I do not think descriptive torture to various parts of the body, sexually related or not is necessary. Suggestive imagery is all that a good writer needs. But, regardless, you are a good writer simply because you allow yourself to feel deep emotions and can admit to it, albeit in the fiction you write. Be careful with the Bourbon, it will kill you faster than Scotch!

Right in the Middle
A young woman hires down-and-out investigator Nicholas Colt to find her sister, a runaway. She doesn't want the police involved because Brittney would end up being turned over to the state. Colt takes the case, which becomes a lot more complicated than a simple runaway. The problem I had with this novel is that it is two stories. The first one, following Colt's attempts to find Brittney, was simplistic and uninteresting. His talents as a detective consist of talking to witnesses and threatening to call the police to roust them if they didn't tell him what he wanted to know. The book is narrated in the first person, which works when the narrator is a fascinating character. And Colt should have been fascinating. His background was certainly interesting--a former rock musician whose wife and daughter, along with his bandmates, were killed in a plane crash. But none of this information seemed to mold his character. I never got the feeling that he was a former rock star grieving over the death of his wife. His narrative style was that of a wise guy. None of the asides were interesting or pertinent. Quotes from Nicholas Colt's Philosophy of Life were annoying. The supporting characters were also bland, a big minus in a PI novel. Then something strange happened. In the second half of the novel, set several months after the Brittney case, Colt ends up investigating a neo-Nazi religious cult. It was like reading a totally different book. The action was a little over the top, but it was a slam bang thriller that eventually, though a little disjointedly, gets tied into the previous case. The climax was exciting and had been set up nicely.I loved the second half, and disliked the first half. So I'm right in the middle on this one.

PI Action Heaven
This book has it all.... suspense, action, intrigue, plots and sub plots.Easy to follow with a fast pace and easy reading. Not lacking in any area it leads you on a multi million dollars steeplechase. This book is not easy to put down but, it you do, you can quickly and easily get immersed once again. And off you go into a highly exciting (and most comfortable) journey that, in the end, will leave you breathless and satisfied.

Another win for Jude Hardin
Pocket-47 is another excellent read in the Nicholas Colt Thriller series. Once again the characters are richly developed with the villains being as nasty as any I have ever read. The good guys are very human by that I mean they have good intentions but sometimes do wretched things in order to reach what his protagonist considers to be the just end. Colt is written as a complex person with a mostly good heart, questionable moral character, and a desperate need solve the injustices of his life and the lives of his clients. He is fiercely loyal to his friends and viciously proactive with his enemies. Colt's complex personality and tragic past makes him a character with a broken heart, fighting to overcome the heartbreaks of his past while tackling the difficult tests of his current life. There is much to like about Hardin's writing. This series is a real winner for him.

Nicholas Colt In Action
Twenty years ago, Nicholas Colt had led a southern rock band, was married, with a daughter. Then the plane went down, killing his family, his band, and his career. He left music behind. These days he works as a private eye. When Leitha Ryan hires him to find her runaway little sister, fifteen year old Brittney. He accepts the job at a flat rate and actually locates the girl fairly quickly. Brittney doesn't want to talk at first, only saying she'd left because they were going to kill her.Who were they?Soon shots come through the window of the Airstream on the beach he lived in, he chases after them, then finds Brittney gone when he gets back. In short order, he finds his client murdered, tortured first, and a trail that leads him to mysterious cult and a secret that stretches back twenty years.Liked this one.

Never lost my interest!
I bought this book on my kindle as the deal of the day. I had other books so didn't get to this one for a few months. The book was hard to put down and I'm so sorry I didn't read it right away. I would have been on the second or third book by now! Seemed everytime I though the story was winding down there was a new twist. The main charactor, Nicholas Colt, was likeable but also seemed real. He wasn't a "hero" but a real guy who had been though some tough times. There was some brutatality but it was well written without gory details. There were times while reading I didn't think I could go on because the suspense was killing me. I read a lot of suspense and sometimes the plots are predictable... not this one. I am so glad I picked this book up as a "just in case" I run out book - and I have already picked up the next one.

Not bad, but not memorable
I read a lot of mystery/thrillers and this one didn't resonate with me. Wasn't horrible, but didn't find the main character particularly compelling. Pretty sure I purchased this as a kindle daily deal, where I sometimes stumble upon authors I can't wait to read more books from, but this wasn't one of them.Sorry I don't have anything very specific to write, this book wasn't horrible, but just not as good as many of the other books I've ready.

Solid start to a spiffy series
Pocket47 is the first Nicholas Colt novel; I started at the wrong end of the series with Snuff Tag 9 (A Nicholas Colt Thriller) and there's no doubt that the later books are more accomplished and satisfying than this effort. Even so, this one is an entertaining modern American gumshoe investigation which sets the scene for Colt's later escapades - and it helped me to make more sense of the supporting cast, the hero's various entanglements and his convoluted motivation. So Pocket47 is definitely worth reading on a quiet day, before moving on to the rather more polished Crosscut (A Nicholas Colt Thriller) and the rip-snorting SnuffTag 9.Colt himself is an interesting character; previously a rock star whose plane crash wiped out his band, his family and a considerable chunk of his life. He's now dragged himself back to civilised life (sort of) as a PI working out of a trailer next to a lake; occasionally strumming a guitar and going nowhere fast in a turbulent relationship - seeming to steer clear of commitment after the death of his family. This investigation starts as a possible runaway / missing person, and neatly divides into two halves in the traditional style of the revenge movie: in the longer, first part, Colt is betrayed and fails to fulfil his mission. In the second, he throws himself into a survivalist religious cult to score some righteous payback. Nothing goes as planned, and there's some neat plotting, good dialogue and clever reversals to keep you occupied throughout. The writing is clean and uncomplicated; easy to dash through. Don't expect any humungous philosophical revelations, and you'll enjoy a straightforward hard-boiled thriller which acts as an excellent introduction to a character who gets more interesting with later books.7/10 Snuff Tag 9 (A Nicholas Colt Thriller)Crosscut (A Nicholas Colt Thriller)

Enjoyable read
This sets the scene for later Nicholas Colt books and is a lively story, full of snappy dialog and action. However the link to the title is obscure and there are too many coincidences that seem so unlikely that its hard to remain fully engaged or sympathetic to the characters.

Another great Nicholas Colt thriller
I enjoyed it enormously and it answered a few questions about Nick's past.Well worth a read even if he does appear to get seriously injured in every outing

Another off-Beat PI
It's difficult to find a PI that is out of the ordinary - but apart from the fact that all of these I have read so far are pretty dark in content, I am enjoying the developing of the Nick Colt character - keep them coming.
