nVidia Geforce FX5500 256MB DDR PCI Video Card
I am sure this nVidia Geforce FX5500 DDR PCI Video Graphics Card would work beautifully on most computers, the fact that my computer is a 9-year-old Windows XP HP computer with integrated ATI RADEON XPRESS 200 series graphics installed at the factory as part of my motherboard is likely the reason why it won't work on my computer.See, I thought something might be wrong with my integrated graphics card (My monitor was blinking repeatedly and its screen was going black for a few seconds at a time, and I had already checked my power-saving settings, and replaced both the VGA cable and the power cable, to no avail.), and thought I could just uninstall the driver for my integrated graphics, then install this nVidia graphics card and download the newest driver from the nVidia website and it would work. And, yes, I DID go into the boot utility to make sure it was set to use the video card instead of the integrated graphics. Silly me. I was wrong. The nVidia Geforce FX5500 256MB DDR PCI video card arrived in good condition; and it fit perfectly in my PCI slot (after I moved my network card down one slot to make room for the fan on the nVidia); but WinXP chose to provide its own driver for the card after I restarted my computer. Of course, it also reinstalled the driver for the integrated graphics and that caused a conflict. So, I tried downloading the newest nVidia driver for the new card from its website, but WinXP wouldn't install it. So then, NEITHER the integrated graphics nor the new nVidia graphics card was working. I ended up removing the new card and returning it; after that the integrated graphics returned to working order, and I was left no choice but to accept that my monitor is slowly dying, and there's nothing I can do to stop it.My next new computer is NOT going to have integrated graphics; not if I can help it!!!I gave the item 4 stars because, while I did not work for me, I am sure it will work for someone with a newer computer that does not have the WinXP operating system. And, because Amazon was very understanding; and immediately sent me a UPS label (they paid for the return shipping!) via email. I had my money back within 10 days.

Excellent video card!
Excellent video card for an upgrade of my hp 2003 desktop pc (originally an XP, now a Win7). The on-board video had only 64 MB of memory and a maximum screen resolution of 800 x 600. Now, with this card, the monitor has 1290 x 1024. I was worry about the power supply my pc has (200 W), but it wasn't an issue, even with two connected ide hard disks and the dvd reader. I am not a gamer, so I can't give an opinion on that matter. The BIOS recognized the card automatically as the primary video, so I didn't need to set anything (although I checked it anyway).IMPORTANT: The CD accompanying the videocard only has drivers for XP and Vista. One must download the Win7 (32 & 64 b) and Win8 drivers from the Nvidia site. I search: fx 5500 windows 7, checked the supported systems of the drivers (date was oct. 2010) and download to an usb. Then unplug the pc, installed the video card, connect the pc, doubleclick the file directly from the usb and that's all, an installer is openned.Don't forget change the screen resolutions settings (right click on desk).UPDATE: With this video card you can't get the "Aero" features with nvidia Windows 7 drivers. You must download from nvidia site the drivers for Windows Vista. Then right click, choose Properties, and select Vista in the compatibility tab. Run the program as administrator. And restart the PC. Now you must have "Aero" environment. There is a video in YouTube (without sound), which explains step by step the procedure. Search something like "get aero nvidia fx 5500".I hope this eliminates some frustration, like my own the first time I installed this video card.

Cheap card...doesn't last
I guess you get what you pay for..cheap video card, and it stopped working in 3 years. I know these things won't run forever as I have a box full of old AGP video cards in a closet that needs to be discarded, but it's a pain to deal with a non-responsive video card. I am down for at least a day while Amazon sends me a new card.

I bought two of these, had issues with one, but its too inexpensive to bother to return.. I didn't put much effort into figuring out what the issue was, so I cant positively blame the card.

Amazon Service is Tops
I am really only rating the Amazon service for this item as I returned it as it did not fit my computer(my mistake). I contacted Amazon when I discovered my mistake to return. The service was great as they E-mailed me a UPS label and arraigned to have it picked up directly from my home. Within 3 days of returning I had the full price of the item returned. Great service by the Amazon service department.
