Extinct Animals: An Encyclopedia of Species that Have Disappeared during Human History Hardcover – Illustrated, March 20, 2009

When it comes to extinct animals, it made me appreciate how these animals used to live here until we humans came in the picture and brought them to extinction. So sad to they're gone now. However, it's always good to remember what they are and how we should be inspired of their existence.

Got this for young elementary aged children and there are drawings of a frontal nude male Neanderthals and side nude of female.There might be more…I need to go through and look.While this most likely wouldn’t be an issue for older kids & teens, I think it’s inappropriate for young children (especially girls) to see a man’s genitalia.

This book is fun to read and has great photos. I especially liked the description of the lighthouse cat that single-handedly wiped a species of bird. However, the reader can tell that the author is not a professional scientist. According to this book almost every animal over the last 50,000 years died due to a combination of human hunting and climate change. However, aside from being too timid to take sides, the author really doesn't give evidence to justify the oft-repeated statement. In short, the book doesn't have the data, statistics and evidence I'm used to getting from professional paleontologists. Nonetheless, it was really meant to be an entertaining read, and it certainly is. I finished it in a few days.

$80? :( This book looks like it has a great layout, pretty thorough and yet... why??? Is it a textbook or something?

$79 for a book? Do they really think anyone would purchase this? It looks like a good book and I think that the publisher has a moral directive to make it available to the average person. Once it has been formatted, it does not cost Amazon or the original publisher a penny for it to be transferred. How ridiculous to charge that much.
