Does not smell that bad. Good blanket.
When I read the reviews, I was expecting to open the package, take a whiff, and return it. I was ready! Yet, when I opened the package, I was pleasantly surprised. Yes, if you put your nose to the fabric there is a chemical smell. But, IMHO, it is not overpowering. The blanket itself is nice and long, heavy, but a weight that is easily carried and stowed. This is a versatile item and well worth the money. One thing to note is the it is 70% wool and 30% synthetic.

Like a mil surplus blanket
People who are mad about the quality/ durability of a $20 wool blanket shouldn't be buying a $20 wool blanket. Hight quality wool blankets just don't sell for less that $200. That said, this works perfect for an emergency blanket. Keep one in your car, on in your wife's car, your mom or dads car, your kids car, one in your garage, one in your closet, on in your camper. Keep them everywhere. If it gets dirty, hose it down and air dry it. It's not scratchy but it's not soft. It's moderately thin but folded on itself makes a great bed roll / pad. It does have a mild odor, but those are the dyes used in the factory. First time you use it on the grass dirt, or by a campfire-- that's what it'll smell like. Final review-- for a $20 wool blend blanket this is worth having. Its worth having multiple.

GREAT FOR CAMPING!!!
This wool camping blanket is an excellent combination of warmth, durability, and practicality. The heavy-duty, military-style design feels rugged and well-made, while the 70% wool blend provides impressive insulation that keeps you warm even in colder conditions. It’s perfect for camping, outdoor adventures, or just staying cozy at home. One of the best features is how easy it is to care for—the blanket is washable and holds up well without losing its shape or softness. It’s generously sized, versatile, and dependable, making it a great value for the quality. A reliable, comfortable blanket that’s built to last. Highly recommended.

Better Than Expected
Wool blankets have a natural odor and this one is no exception. Maybe I overprepared for an overpowering and repulsive odor, but it wasn't horrific or even unpleasant to me. However, after washing it in cold water on the gentle cycle and drying it on low heat as directed on the packaging, the odor dissipated significantly. Some of the wool blanket reviews on Amazon swear there is a overpowering petroleum smell because of moth-proofing or fire-proofing, but this is the natural odor you smell. The manufacturer states that no chemicals were added to the blanket. Another problem people noted with cheaper wool blankets was the high amount of shedding. I washed the blanket normally in my regular household top-loading washer and dried it in my regular household dryer with two tennis balls to help fluff it up. The shedding was minimal - about a handful of fiber. (Please see pictures.) I was worried it would be too complicated to wash and dry the blanket, based on some other reviews suggesting cleaning strategies, but it was really convenient to pop it in the washer and dryer and not have to take it to the dry cleaners or laundromat or have to hang it dry. Finally, I was worried about the stiffness and roughness of a wool blanket as well but once washed and dried, the blanket was soft and snuggly warm. I have it against bare skin on my legs right now and I don't feel itchy. I wasn't sure that I would get anything of good quality at this price, but I was pleasantly surprised. I was going to keep this blanket in the car for picnics, outdoor events, and emergencies, but I liked it so much it's on my bed right now. I don't know how warm this medium weight blanket would keep you if the temperature dropped below freezing but it sure would help under your sleeping bag, on top of your lap at an outdoor concert, or over your shoulders at a football game. The greatest testament to this blanket's quality is that my feet are always cold and right now I'm under the fan with just the blanket on and my feet are not cold. I haven't tested its waterproof or fire-resistant properties, so I'm not sure about that but most wool blankets claim to be waterproof and fire-resistant down to 50% wool. This blanket is 70% wool, so it seems like it might perform as claimed. The only reason I took off a star for durability is because there were several pulls in the fabric after I washed it and it seemed a little lighter when I picked it up. Comfort is a high 4 stars because it's still not plush heirloom quality wool but I could sleep with it directly against my skin without it bothering me. Overall, I recommend this blanket and will probably buy more for my kids because of the quality, ease of care, and affordable price.

AVOID this "Wool Blanket" like the plague.
I am no stranger to military wool blankets. I've slept, washed and cared for them my entire life, my father was in the Army and retired, my husband was in the Army and retired. This blanket? What a nightmare, I have NEVER encountered anything like this ever. Yes, wool blankets do have a smell to them. But this? It smells like a tire, even after washing it twice. It had pieces of very old grass in it which I found all over my washer. . .did they clean the wool before they used it to make the blanket? Small chunks of blanket also came off in the washer. My washer stunk of tire so I bought a washer cleaner, ran it through, with a secondary rinse cycle. In spite of that, it left the grey color of the blanket in my machine that stained the load after it and made that load of wash smell like a tire. Fortunately, I was cautious and washed a load of rags and old rugs. I had to rewash that load because it stunk of tire and in hopes that the grey color would be lessened. That load doesn't smell like a tire anymore but it is still stained grey. I don't know who is writing these positive reviews because it isn't warranted, not by a long shot. If you like the smell of tires and want all your laundry to smell that way, go ahead. If you love the color grey and want your next load to be dyed grey as a bonus, go ahead. This blanket has been sitting out to dry outside, just to see if there has been any improvement in the tire smell. Nope. This thing is going out to the trash, I would not even donate it in hopes that someone would be able to benefit from it but this is the absolutely the worst thing I have ever purchased on-line, ever. Avoid this product like the plague!!!

Weird smell comming of it. Falls apart. Like a shedding animal. Pieces or tufts of wool evrywhere..
