Amazing Product and Amazing Customer Service
Absolutely satisfied with this product!! I bought the complete package (the more expensive one) which came with the big things you would need to change out the anode rod. The quality of the tools provided were great and I still have the socket in my toolbox for if and when I need to do maintenance and decide to change the rod. Most tools needed a "handyman" (how I perceive myself, mind you) should have. I only needed to buy a 1/2" drive breaker bar, which I also found on Amazon for $12, was recommended by both YouTube DIY videos and the instructions. The instructions were absolutely awesome. It went step by step through everything through everything you needed to do and explained it as if you had no idea what you were doing, because believe me I did not. I would highly advise going through the instructions prior to doing anything to ensure you have what you need and to get your head around the 20 minute (45 minute tops) job you will have. This practice actually saved me not only time but money due to a mistake I made ordering the product but the instructions saved me from. The customer service was awesome. Quick, efficient, and very knowledgeable. As I said before, the instructions really saved me. I originally bought the magnesium rod, which upon reading the instructions, I saw it was not the rod that rids the hot water of the rotten egg smell. I immediately contacted the email on the box and within about 2 hours (surprisingly) I received a reply detailing the return policy and informing me that it is highly advised that I return the rod because it will make the issue worse and they wanted to ensure I had the right product which would give me the right result. I ordered and received the wrong rod, returned it, ordered and received the right rod, and had it installed all within the same week.Understand this: The smell may not completely come out of the water immediately especially depending on the amount of time the water has been smelling like that. The smell got exponentially better by the next day (I did run the hot water quite a bit) and it is improving as time goes on. I'm assuming it might be whatever left in the pipes and maybe residue as well (not sure). However, my family is greatly appreciative and I am only upset I did not find this fix sooner.Thank you guys for all of your help. I will be going through you guys for the next rod change or whatever may come up.

Follow The Instructions For An Easy Install
I purchased this Anode Rod from About Fluid for my 9 year old Kenmore 50 gallon water heater. Yes, I should have replaced it earlier. It came well packaged with clear, easy to follow instructions, along with a 1-1/6" long socket, pipe tape and the anode rod. About Fluid also sent an Email offering assistance. My water heater is in a closet with a low ceiling. Following the instructions and a few YouTube videos, I found the anode rod on the top of the water heater. It was partially covered with insulation, just below a hole in the cover at the top of the tank. I scraped away the insulation until the socket would securely fit on the anode rod. I shut off the cold water supply, opened a nearby hot water tap, set the water heater control to Pilot, and then shut off the gas supply. I drained 2 gallons of water from the tank.I tried using a ratchet with a 4' pipe on it to loosen the anode rod. Wouldn't budge. I then unscrewed the flue ducting from the top of the water heater and spun it out of the way to give access to an electric impact wrench. Using the wrench easily loosened the anode rod. I needed needle nose pliers to pull up the anode rod. I pulled it up as high as I could go with the low ceiling, and then applied vise grip pliers to the rod at the top of the water heater to keep it from falling back into the water heater. I then cut the anode rod off just above the vise grips. I did this twice. The picture shows the rod cut into 3 pieces. I laid a rag around the rod to keep the metal shavings from falling into hole.Home stretch. I put some pipe dope on the threads of the new rod and installed it. Reconnected the flue ducting. Shut off the open tap. Turned on the water supply to fill the tank. Fired up the gas. It works.A good kit, with a good price, and great instructions. I will buy from About Fluid again.

Quality kit with everything you need for a smooth install
Awesome kit with quality components to complete the install. Be wary the existing rods can be tough to break free. I was very impressed with the quality of the kit components and the instructions

Buy it and cross your fingers
Like everyone says, the worst part of this maintenance is getting the old anode rod out. I prepared in advance for a battle but was also willing to strategically surrender rather than damage the heater in any way. Was just about to give up when my homemade cheater bar helped crack the top nut. From there it was a cakewalk.Glad i opted for this upgraded version over a cheaper model. The difference was anout 12 bucks. The supplied 1/2” deep socket may have been the saving grace. I did notice the socket may have been used. Probably somebody couldn’t crack the bolt and just sent the kit back. TBH I probably would have done the same. Be sure you got a 1/2” ratchet or breaker bar, i needed to convert my 3/8” setup with an adapter. Not ideal but it worked. Was easy to remove one of the rod links, while the entire length may have fit my State heater i didn’t want to chance cracking the glass insulation or hitting the heater element. The brass drain cap and plumb tape were welcomed freebies.Repair guys wanted $200-250 to service. My 9yo anode rod was ~75% eaten. I paid around $48 for the kit plus a socket converter and an hour of my time. Good deal.

Great kit with everything I needed to get the job done
Everything I needed to remove my old anode rod and install this new one was included in the package. The only thing I ended up needing was a socket wrench with a 1/2" head on it to accommodate the high quality anode socket provided with the kit. The socket set I had at home had 3/8" head so make sure you have a larger socket wrench. The instructions were literally among some of the best I've ever dealt with and explained everything really well step by step all the way through. Yes, as others have noted, removing the old anode from your tank really takes some force. With a bit of leverage and the water tank being held in place so that it couldn't spin as I was cranking, I did manage to remove my old anode.
