Motherson Auto Parts Aerobin Insulated Composter (200 Litre, Green and Grey)

The aerobin 200 is designed well -- it looks great as a composting bin and does its job well. Assembles easily and seems solid and durable. About the manufacturing -- see below.But, of course, just chucking stuff in the aerobin will not work. I followed aerobin 200 instructions diligently -- added a 4 inch layer of dried leaves initially, always pre-mixed kitchen waste with dried leaves or newspaper strips in a 10:7 ratio or close. Its better to err on the drier side than on the wetter side -- you can always sprinkle a bit of water if the mix is too dry but it is very difficult to dry a too-wet mix. Also I added a starter compost maker or mature compost to the initial batches -- this kick started the composting process. You know the composting is on track if the material in the bin heats up (enough that you can feel the warmth in the air in the bin) within 24 hours of addition, the odor is earthy, there's no sliminess and minimal insects. About insects and creatures -- expect them -- flies, tiny worms, spiders, lizards etc. If you are getting maggots, the material is too wet. The bin, because of its design, will also have water condensing on the walls and dripping out -- it is odorless and small in amount. Add pre-mixed material regularly, otherwise the bin cools down and insect population will increase.About the manufacturing quality of the bin -- manufacturing is sloppy. The panels are double walled, but some of them had open gaps between the walls, which is bad because all kinds of insects and yucky things will move into the space and build into gunk. The panels do not have a good fit -- the locking tabs do not align, and even though the assembled structure is rigid, it can collapse if the bin is shoved. The aerobin assembly instructions said that once assembled the panels should snap fit such that you can lift the aerobin by holding the upper panels and the bin will not collapse -- not true! The snap fit tabs do not align and there is no holding power against accidental push to the bin. Also the central lung pipes do not fit tightly -- if you stir the material in the bin the pipes will come right off.About the design in India context -- the aerobin's construction of double walls of plastic with Styrofoam in between is unnecessary as our climate does not require insulation against snow etc. It would have been better to make it cheaper, rain proof, with better aeration, with tighter tolerances for cockroach and insect prevention, and a lid that can be operated with one hand. Also, for the price they should supply a compost starter mix (1kg), a compost sieve and a premix basket that fits inside the bin.Overall, recommended if you know how to compost and have money to spend.

This product is not really east to fix and doesn't get locked propely, It is very difficult to manage. Not worth the money. It is not at all sturdy. Really dissatisfied with the product.
