The Paint Effects Bible: 100 Recipes for Faux Finishes

Good how-tos, only a few effects I would really use
This is one of those books you really need to preview before you buy. I bought it without a preview (or without flipping through it in the store) because I had a few walls with horrible drywall and I thought some faux would cheer them up. I was bored with the techniques I've used in the past. The book is very well designed. It is spiral bound so you can lay it flat while you paint. I love that the step-by-step directions come with photos of each step, and they really are idiot proof. I've used one finish and it turned out nicely. However, the effects I would actually use are few. I wish I would have read it first to find out that only 2-3 of them were in my tastes. I didn't deduct any stars for that, because that is not the book's fault. It does a great job for what it is.

My favorite paint effect book on my bookshelf.
So many books these days just show you pics and very basic instructions. Not this book! It shows you detailed instructions for each treatment. The book is set up like a little encyclopedia with a section for each treatment. Full-color photo of the treatment itself and great instructions on how to achieve the effect with pictures to help. At the beginning of the book, there are really good instructions on how to do all the basic steps that are described later on in each of the effects. Of all the book I purchased this one is "hands down" my favorite one.

Good beginner book
A comprehensive book with many techniques, if you want to paint in oil. This book really only shows oil recipes, and I try to avoid oil paint these days. I have done many faux finishes with acrylic. Also, the Trompe L'oeil section is too limited and the flower is not at all realistic. Maybe tried to cover too much in one little book.I like the ring binder that allows it to lay flat, and great info for tools, etc. for the beginner.

Not really so great for beginners
This book is more like an "encylopedia" than a "how to do it". I likes to refer to it but there are other books that are much better if you actually intend to decorate your house or a valued object with an effect. The Paint Receipe book is a wonderful book for getting started and gives explicit instructions. This book covers a lot of effects with a brief about how to achieve them and is best used if you have some experience.

Great for ALL, from beginners to advanced artists
I cannot compliment this book enough. Great sturdy construction with spiral bound pages, tons of ideas and photos, explicit instructions. I'm just getting started re-doing furniture and a home we just bought and I have no doubts this book will help me make it the creative and unique home I've always dreamed of. You will not be disappointed with this purchase.

Great paint book
love this little book. I bought this several years ago, when I first got into decorative painting and I have to say it was one of my best investments. If you're new to painting this is a must have. I don't think I would ever loan this book out.

recommended for anyone trying to learn more techniques
Bought as a gift for my father in law, who is a painter and decorator and he is well impressed. He's been interested in learning more techniques to apply his trade and he tells me its very informative and it's a fantastic learning tool.

Great General Guide for Non-Professionals
This book is well planned and provides great basic instructions. I would absolutely recommend it. Anyone who wants to begin producing faux finishes would find the book useful. My only complaints are in the marble and stone sections - the selection is limited, the instructions are not comprehensive and the final results for some surfaces(malachite, lapus lazuli, for example) look a lot more 'faux' than I would prefer.

Pasable
Es un gran recurso de texturas y consigue en muy poco espacio explicar como crear la ilusión. es si, son bastante simples, quizá orientadas a un público que se esté introduciendo todavía
