Fehr takes on the delightful task of portraying a woman's earliest years of adulthood, much the way David Hamilton is so well known for. The beauty of that age seems to radiate in these images - always the young woman's native charm, but often hints or touches that suggest eroticism as well. The imagery tends toward the romantic, with soft clothes (when any) or sensual bathing. Other pictures, however, feature architectural decay, perhaps a memento mori, perhaps a contrast of harsh, hard decay against the model's curves and vigor.The isn't the deepest exploration of what figure photography can be. Still, it goes well beyond mere prettiness with its warm moods and hints at the potential in each model or pair. Certainly one to come back to - I just wish the back cover wasn't so close to the front.-- wiredweird

I'd never seen any works by Dani Fehr before I got this book, but I was very pleasantly surprised. There is a soft glow to match the sensual beauty of the models and their poses; it's very reminiscent of Marc Lagrange's influential work in erotic photography. I see a lot of original content, particularly in posing, lighting, and setting; that's fairly rare in modern erotic photography. The most surprising component of the pieces was the lighting -- I'd never seen such soft lighting for this type of photography -- usually erotic photographers like de Mulder, Rankin or James will utilize stark contrast in color or saturation to expose the sexiness of the models, but this goes for a much smoother approach where you can soak in the beauty instead of having the sensuality thrust at you. Overall, very quality, sexy work!Despite the excellent nature of the work itself, I had to give it only four stars because of the high price and small amount of content. Erotic photography books are typically expensive, but $57 (at time of writing) for 80 pages is nearly double or triple per-page price of many other capable photographers; the book size isn't stunningly large or impressive, either. Size is often important in erotic photography because of the presence it creates, and I don't feel that the size is living up to the talent of the photographer; that's a shame. I feel as though this photographer is going to be making waves in a few years, and I look forward to seeing more content and bigger collections in the future!I would purchase this if you're a big fan of erotic photography like myself, and would like to add to your collection. Otherwise, it seems too expensive for someone that just wants an introduction to this type of photography.

Better known as ArtofDan - Swiss photographer Dani Fehr has released another book; only this time it is through German powerhouse, Edition Reuss (his previous efforts were self-puiblished). Fehr has earned himself a legion of fans over last few years. His nudes on display at his website, ArtofDan.com and other websites have struck an immediate chord with viewers, given their vibrant energy, superb clarity, and spectacular lighting ... not to mention the extraordinarily beautiful, youthful models he works with.In Naked Dream Girls we are treated to a thrilling collection of Fehr's most powerful images. His work does not typically possess the normal elements of erotica or the air of sexuality that many erotic photographers do. Instead, Dani Fehr relies on powerful composition to craft his imagery, that in itself, insinuates a vibrant, wholly original sense or sensuality. His work is reminiscent of David Hamilton, Robert Farber, and Richard Murrian, but there is a certain flair to Dani's style that makes his vision totally his own. The one drawback to this collection is that it's bit small - only 85 pages - but the work within is so exciting it's impossible not to rate this book 5 stars.

Der Bildband >Naked Dream Girls< von Dani Fehr, bei Edition Reuss im Großformat (etwas größer als DIN A4 quer) erschienen, enthält 89 recht romantisch anmutende, dabei häufig explizite Foto-Kunstwerke von spärlich bis unbekleideten jungen Damen, bisweilen auch mit ihren Freundinnen. Sechs der Fotos sind zwischendurch in Schwarzweiß gehalten.Die Fotos sind auf hochwertiges, schweres Hochglanz-Papier angedruckt, welches die exzellente Bildschärfe und jedes Detail nuancenreich herausarbeitet, in ihrer Mehrzahl vollformatig mit weißem Rand (Querformate 28 x 18,5 cm, Hochformate 19,5 x 18,5 cm). 22 hochformatige Fotos sind jeweils zu zweit auf einer Seite im Format 13,5 x 18,5 cm angeordnet.Die Fotos haben mich in ihrer Stimmung und Beleuchtung manchmal stark an David Hamilton erinnert. Die Cover-Fotos sind diesbezüglich repräsentativ (vgl. mit dem seinerzeitigen Kino-Plakat und jetzigen DVD-Cover von >Bilitis<). Fehr setzt jedoch keinerlei Weichzeichner ein, legt vielmehr größten Wert auf bestmögliche Bildschärfe mindestens im Hauptmotiv. Er erzielt romantische Stimmung wahlweise durch eine weiche Beleuchtung, durch gekonnte Tiefenschärfe-Einstellung sowie natürlich durch das in der Regel malerische, bisweilen an klassische Stilleben erinnernde Ambiente und den Ausdruck der Mädchen.Blickkontakt zum Betrachter ist nur in 38 Fotos gegeben. Oft blicken die Modelle mehr oder weniger verträumt an der Kamera vorbei auf Anderes oder haben genussvoll die Augen geschlossen. Beim Auszählen hat mich erstaunt, dass fast die Hälfte der Fotos so explizit ist, dass sie in deutschen Publikums-Zeitschriften nicht erscheinen dürften. Der Band macht insgesamt einen >softeren< Eindruck und ist mit der manchmal schreierischen Explizitheit etwa der Foto-Strecken namhafter Glamour-Fotografen in US-Männer-Magazinen überhaupt nicht vergleichbar. Das (bei näherer Betrachtung über Schärfe und Beleuchtung sehr wohl bewusst heraus gearbeitete) zumeist rasierte Geschlecht der Damen fügt sich vielmehr nahtlos und auf natürlichste Weise in die Gesamt-Komposition des Werkes mit ein.Die Fotos sind sowohl indoor als auch outdoor entstanden. Viele scheinen mir aus dem asiatischen Raum zu stammen. Zu den Sets lässt sich nichts wirklich verallgemeinern, hier stellt jedes Bild ein Unikat dar, das der Betrachter auf sich wirken lassen sollte. Auszugsweise kann hier aus dem (wie bei Reuss üblich recht blumig interpretierenden) Vorwort von Nicolas Piel zitiert werden: >Nackte Mädchen im welken Laub…, … umgibt Dani Fehr seine Modelle mit abgenutzten Objekten, antiquierten, fast nostalgischen Souvenirs einer verlorenen Zeit …, treibt das konträre Verhältnis zwischen der naturgegebenen Verjüngung und den zentrifugalen Kräften des Verfalls auf die Spitze<. Was aus meiner Sicht nicht das Leitmotiv des Bandes ist, der Fotograf hat vielmehr einen Blick für eine malerische, das Romantische seiner Bilder unterstreichende, darüber hinaus zu Interpretationen einladende Umgebung.FAZIT: Wer Fotos im Stil eines David Hamilton mag, dort jedoch Bildschärfe und Explizitheit vermisst, wird den vorliegenden Band sicher zu schätzen wissen.
