Another great addition for the TotalGym XLS
Another great addition for the TotalGym XLS. This bar is hollow. The ends are fitted with a plastic cover at each end. When I got my bar, I noticed that one of these plastic covers was loose. I had to pull it out and re-fit it - then hit it with the palm of my hand. Have had no problems with it since. Have used this bar twelve times since it arrived and could not be happier.

This truly is a worthwhile addition to the Total Gym.
I already own the Total Gym. The only reason that I did not buy them at the same time, was just that I needed to get a feel for the Total Gym. Needless to say I got it and after one workout I knew that it was a very good piece of exercise equipment. So that is when I bought this. I own my own in home gym. From a leg press station to a dual high pulley and low pulley station and just about everything in between. The reason that I bought the Total Gym, is that I spend several days of the week at my fiance's house and I want to never miss an opportunity to improve myself. I do a lot of pull-ups, so needless to say the only downfall that the Total Gym had, was the limit of the amount of weight on it's highest setting. So making this investment makes perfect sense if you like the Total Gym but need a little extra weight. The only part that sucks is that, "Maximum user weight plus any additional weight can not exceed 300 pounds" (this is according to the warning stickers sent along with the bar). So if your as serious into lifting as I am, then on certain compound exercise (for me Total Gym pull-ups, pretty much any of the back exercises, along with any chest and leg exercise) will fast become easy. I should say that of course, especially with this upgrade, that any isolation movement, is only going to be much harder for you to "max out," on. Which for me means that when I'm at my significant others house, I just shift my focus to the smaller muscle groups. So for my fellow lifting enthusiasts, if you have a total gym and need some extra weight, look no further. However you have to remember that over 300 pounds is a lose, lose situation. So if you're as into it as I, this is not going to be what your looking for. That is unless you happen to be a featherweight. I'll go ahead and explain myself further on that point. According to the information that I got with my Total Gym (Total Gym Resistance Chart), 300 pounds of weight on the highest setting would only actually come out to be 141 pounds. Please allow me to go ahead and break that down for you. I weigh in at 250 pounds. So a push-up for me(especially if it was a decline push-up, feet a higher level than hands), is about the same weight as a Total Gym chest press. As far as the pull-ups go, luckily I have a separate pull-up bar in the doorway. I will say that however, if there is no choice but to work on my chest, back or legs at my significant others house, I just focus on correct exercise form and make each rep extremely slow. This is fine for me because my sport is bodybuilding. So overall muscle size and muscle quality is what I'm looking for. Therefor days when I get to focus on exercise form, that brings up not only my degree of perfectly executing every rep but also the amount of slow twitch muscle fibers that get damaged during a workout. The reason why I went on to elaborate more on this, is because if your in it like I am maximum muscle, then this machine is perfect for your light lifting days but not for heavy lifting days. If your a power lifter, this isn't your cup of tea.
