PHANTOM IN BLACK AND WHITE
THE name is Phantom(Also known as Aranyadeb in Bengali and Betal in Indrajal comics). We simply love Phantom and y childhood was centered around a huge collection of comics , thanks to the encouragement from my father. My Father still loves phantom, and he actually followed the exploits of Phantom since 1940s when Anandabazar Patrika started publishing Phantom daily comics strips. However good quality reproduction of Phantom comics is not readily available in India and the Indrajal comics didnot continue in the 1990s to capture the imagination of the present generation. The Americans are proud of Phantom and rightly so.He is the grandfather of the costumed heroes and along with Mandrake the magician, constitute the Comics Titans created by Lee Falk.It is probable that some of the stories f Phantom, specially contained in the present collection, like the WHITE PRINCESS , may not find resonance with the present generation. However, these books have nostalgic value and the market forces know how to encash the sentiment associated with nostalgia.Priced at Rs.3500+ this collection is reasonably expensive and will attract the actual Diehard fans of the 'Mr. Walker'.The quality of the book is very good and it is clear that the period from 1956-1957 has been well covered here. The period reflected in this book is interesting.. not only because of the cold war but also due to interesting developments in space exploration.Phantom was already facing competition from Flash Gordon. Buz Sawyer, Rip Kirby and the forever young Belgian detective /Journalist Tintin. My Parents were still reading at school and India was still a developing country competing with China, in the Asian sphere. This collection is of PURE NOSTALGIC VALUE.
