"Genetics of the Fowl" by F. B. Hutt is an outstanding help in understanding the what and how of chicken breeding. The relationship of phenotype and genotype, body conformation related to laying ability, sex-linked gen es, etc., anything you are likely to want to know about traits and the involved genes, this book has it-- simple and direct as possible. I wanted to find what breed was best to cross with silkies to produce a larger Silkie without losing Silkie traits other than size. A copy of the "APA American Standard of Perfection" and a copy of "Laws Governing The Breeding of Standard Fowls" by W.H. Card, were necessary also. My plan is complete!

Boyfriend loved it. Very informative if you plan on breeding, along with descriptive pictures.

You will never read this whole book. It’s essentially an encyclopedia of terminology and summaries of agricultural research papers. But damn, there isn’t much this book is missing. As a reference, you’re absolutely going to want to have it on your shelf. Wish there were more pictures. But the book is heavy enough as it is. A comprehensive tome.
