This complete kit comes with an intercom station that installs near your door and a control unit that connects the door station to your telephone. When a visitor presses the button on the door station, your phone rings and you can answer to talk with your visitor. The Doorbell Fon Main Controller is the base unit for the Doorbell Fon Answering System. When the button on the Door Station is pushed by a visitor, the Controller signals your phone to ring with a distinct tone that is different from a regular voice call. No programming or codes are needed. Just answer the telephone like you would for a regular call. The control unit requires connection to only one incoming line and one door station. A second door station may be added to the controller to operate another entryway. The controller installs using a single pair of wire for power, control, signaling and voice. Any add-on components install on the same single pair. The DoorBell Fon DP28 Door Station installs near a door and triggers your phone to ring when a visitor presses the button. Designed for new construction, all F-Series Door Stations mount into a 2-gang masonry box. You can daisy-chain multiple controllers together to support additional Door Stations, if needed. I installed this unit in my home on one of my two home land line telephone lines. This system enables one to answer the front door from any location on their property or home served by either a corded or cordless house phone when the 'distinctive ring tone' announces someone depressing the doorbell button on the door intercom unit. I use a cordless phone as it is ideal for those backyard patio barbeque/pool events where I can answer the front door via my home cordless phone without leaving the barbeque/pool area! I installed one of these units for an elderly neighbor who lives alone and she can now to talk to anyone at her front door without having to open the door. The system uses the existing two wires of a doorbell unit and no new wiring typically needs to be run.One cool feature is an 'audio monitoring' function whereby one hits the flash button on their house phone and can monitor sounds in the vicinity of each door intercom unit. This is useful in home offices that don't have a visual view of the entrance door(s) where a door intercom is located and enables one to monitor the area very easily with a speaker phone on mute. The microphone is extremely sensitive and one can monitor a very wide area with the microphone in the door intercom unit. One can also initiate a conversation with someone by the door intercom unit without them pressing the doorbell button. Once again the `flash' button on your house phone enables this functionality.My house has a CCTV system where I can both see people at an entrance door (co-located with the door intercom) and speak with them via the house phone for added security. I purchased my unit with the optional 8 ring chip which provides additional time to answer the 'distinctive ring tone' when this system rings the connected house phone line.Installation was easy and the documentation clear. I used an external double gang stainless steel box for the aluminum doorbell intercom unit which provides adequate space for the minimal wiring and a weather shield for the speaker/microphone and button. I did call the manufacturer with a technical support question and was able to get an answer in 'real time' which was very helpful. This is one very cool product and I'm surprised it isn't promoted more by home improvement guru's & writers.
