Review "This is no tale for realists or the weak of stomach, but readers who appreciate a bit of gore, bizarre Satanic doings and a plot with more turns than a spiral staircase will revel in Konvitz's well-written thriller."     Publishers Weekly (1979)Publisher's Weekly #14 National Bestseller Read more About the Author Jeffrey Konvitz was born in New York City, but after graduating from Cornell University and Columbia Law School, he headed to Los Angeles, where he lives and works as an entertainment finance attorney, producer (The Sentinel and Spy Hard, among others) and novelist. His first published novel (Simon and Schuster and Ballantine) was The Sentinel, which rose to Number 2 on the New York Times Mass Market Best Seller List. The Sentinel sequel, The Guardian, was also a bestseller along with his next book, Monster. He is now at work on the third book in The Sentinel Trilogy, currently untitled, while The Sentinel and The Guardian are being mounted for e-book sales. This year, his newly-written historical novel, The Circus of Satan, will be published. It is a story of murder and revenge, set during the rise of organized crime in America from 1900 to 1912 when the Irish Mob ruled all major American cities, only to be taken down by its own hubris and the rise of the Jewish and Italian Mobs into labor racketeering and, then, bootlegging. Filled with real events and real heroes and villains, who rampaged from New York's Bowery through to Chicago, St. Louis, Kansas City and Boston, it is the story of epic, transformative times and two violent men, who meet on a descent into blood and Hell. The author spends most of his spare time on tennis courts, on skis, on basketball courts, and in poker tournaments. The rest of his spare time is spent seeking the perfect word, the perfect sentence, the perfect phrase and the perfect characterization, a most challenging endeavor. Read more

Don't bother to read
Not a very good sequel to The Sentinel. That book had a solid storyline behind it but The Guardian jumps around and feels jerky in style and story telling. Definitely needed a better editor.

Read the Sentinel
This book leaves logic in the rear view. The plot twists are weaponized and over used. Just when you think the author has found his feet you are taken down another garden path. The Sentinel towers above most all other horror novels, much to bad the author failed to outline this work. The real fault lies with his editors.

A awesome sequel
Some sequels aren't as good as the original story, but this one is . There are some surprising twists and turns that really added to the storyline.

A letdown
I was excited to see a sequel. I was disappointed. The story gave some back history to the characters but I lost track of who was who. I found the first book to be homophobic. In this book he seems to be more comfortable with gay men and transgendered women but portrays it as shocking. Perhaps it was the year it was written or reflects his own biases.

Awesome read ...lots of twists
Sincerely hope the author gets his third book done to complete this unique and scary trilogy. I read this book as a teen and loved rereading it. Def worth the purchase!
