FilmGuard Film Cleaner and Lubricant - 16oz

I'm pleased with this product. It's a large bottle. More than you'll probably use, but that said it does an amazing job. I purchased microfiber soft cloths and unscrewed the cap and put the cloth to the opening, turning the bottle over quickly to wet the cloth. It comes with a nozzle to attach but I felt better just wetting the cloth. I hand turned 400 foot Super 8 film reels on a Super 8 movie editor threw the cloth semi soaked with Film Guard. I then did a rewind of the film with a dry clean cloth to pick up any excess of the film cleaner/film lubricant. I am impressed with how it cleans the film and with no streaks left. It will really clean the debris off the film and leave the film almost shiny. I'm very glad I bought it.

I am about to order my second bottle. I have probably cleaned close to 8000 feet of super eight magnetic sound film with the first bottle! I use some microfiber pads and spray a bit on the pad and then rewind the film using the cleaner and the pad. I am astonished how much dirt it gets off the film! It’s never scratched the film, and I actually think somehow Phil in old base scratches on the film base, because when the film is projected, it seems like those imperfections are now gone or greatly reduced.I am a retired, film, editor, and I can recommend this highly.

This stuff is like oil. It doesn’t evaporate. Which, apparently is the point? But no matter how many times you wipe it (which just scratches the film more), it leaves an oily, splotchy residue that causes projection to blur and bloom. I don’t know what I was thinking using this or what the manufacturer was thinking, but it ruined an $800 film. I am livid.

I transfer 8mm and Super 8 film. This works great. A small amount goes a long way! Film looks great. I use a micro fiber cloth to apply and another to wipe clean. Works great. This bottle will last me for years.

Best for film restoration. No substitute. I could not have cleaned and restored a 42 years old 16mm film without it.The best film guard

Personally I felt that it doesn't clean the films very well, I had expectations of making the films look like new but the end result was that it didn't make much of a difference or effect.

Glad to find something that cleans my 8mm films

Very professional product, but can be used by novices like me as well. Not all of us have movie theater equipment in the house. This was used to clean vintage 8mm and Super 8mm family movies. A little goes a long way. A few squirts on a PEC pad is all it takes to clean each roll. Each reel was rewound while holding a PEC pad around the tape through 2 passes. Recommend reading about the product on their website before using it. Thank you Film-Tech, for making a product that actually performs the way you claim. Our family is very appreciative, the films look better, and will now last a lot longer. HIghly recommended product to use before transferring your home movies to DVD.
