KODAK Cherish C525 Video Baby Monitor with Mobile App

Definitely worth a try!
I don’t often write reviews, but seeing as this is a new product and there may be many people like myself that want to know if it’s worth the investment, here’s my input. With our first baby coming any day now, I’ve done a lot of research on video baby monitors, and even purchased one that seemed to be “the best”. That was before the Kodak Cherish hit the market. Upon hearing about the Cherish, we actually returned our other monitor and bought this instead. So far we’re happy we did.Pros:Previous reviewers seemed to be really hard on the night vision. I can attest that the night vision works! See the attached photo for a good idea of what night vision looks like. Thank my black Lab for being a wonderful model. Whatever was going on for those other reviewers, Kodak has obviously fixed it now. I have no problem whatsoever with the night vision.I love that it is portable- you have the handheld parent unit (we bought the 5” screen) and the phone app to give you video/audio feed whenever/wherever. I haven’t seen any other video monitors that offer both a handheld monitor and a phone app; it is usually one or the other. This feature makes the Cherish infinitely more versatile. The camera can run on an internal battery for when you want to use it without a plug (I’ve tested it up to 4 hours so far with no problem). The pan/tilt feature is really neat as well.Other reviewers have mentioned beeps that the parent unit makes- we haven’t experienced those yet. Other reviewers also mentioned the sound machine noises playing back through the parent unit- that would obviously happen because the camera has a microphone on it that feeds back to the parent unit. Whatever sounds are in the room will be picked up by the microphone, including the lullabies that the camera is playing through its speaker. To fix that, simply turn the volume down on the parent unit.I’ve had one experience with customer service, and it was a positive one. I had a question about the product and they responded promptly.Cons:The “sound machine” function is “meh” at best. It does the job, but in my opinion isn’t a replacement for a dedicated sound machine. There’s also no basic “white noise” option. The sensitivity on the camera microphone is set very high, which causes the audio feed to sound fuzzy/noisy. Not a huge deal. The coloration in the day video is slightly distorted. Blacks show up as more of a purple, and the overall picture seems to be highly saturated. This isn’t a huge deal because I don’t need colors to be exact in order to keep an eye on things, but better coloration would make the experience more enjoyable. The user interface on the parent unit isn’t great, but it isn’t terrible either. It’s not an iPhone, so don’t expect HD graphics. The camera unit is slightly larger than I imagined, but it doesn’t really bother me.Final thoughts: Kodak is onto something big here. I love the system, and love that you can add more cameras for overall home security (haven’t done that yet). My biggest fear is that, this being a new product, Kodak will axe it if it doesn’t meet sales expectations. Hopefully that won’t happen.Overall, if you’re looking for something different and new, portable and reliable, take the dive and try out this system. It seems to meet every need and more. I will update this review if anything changes!

Perfect wifi/monitor combination
I’ve been waiting a long time to see a good baby monitor that give you wifi capability and has a handheld monitor as well. When this one came out, i bought it as soon as it was available in amazon. We have the summer infant with dual cameras, so this is a huge upgrade to our current needs.Pros:- wifi access in iphone in real time and share access with family- able to save pics/videos to the cloud and local sd card (this is a plus)- motion detection is super accurate, and able to set areas to detect and to schedule when to turn on motion detection- picture quality is beyond any other baby monitor- temperature is very close to accurate by 3 degree diff.Cons:- power adapter cable are too short, won’t reach 8 ft ceiling. This camera can be setup upside down (ceiling mount)- when monitor is not plugged in (battery) when it reaches 2 lines, you get a message that is trying to connect to the camera. So it it loses connectivity, this can be resolved by keeping it plugged in all the time you are using it.- monitor doesn’t go on sleep mode ( doesn't save battery), which requires you to turn off the screen manually.-night vision turns on even when is daylight in the room. Requires for me to set night vision to off.Hopefully some of these issues can be fixed with a firmware update. In any case i would definitely keep this camera ans will add another one when it becomes available.

Better than competing baby monitors.
First, I need to say, this is not by Kodak. It’s perimeter safe home monitoring, under the Kodak logo. What that means is, I have received excellent North American tech support. 3 bugs I have run into were fixed with patch updates in a day or so. Most companies have no idea how valuable to their reputation good tech support is anymore. The picture quality for a baby monitor is great, but I had higher expectations based on my other IP cameras. This specific model lacks the infrared cut filter for day/night modes, which only matters if you use regular light bulbs. The picture will be overly blue with incandescent lights on. I included pictures from this camera, and my phone for color comparison. Support says an updated camera model is coming soon as an option, or using LED lightbulbs will fix it. Night vision is good for a baby monitor, but my other samsung IP cameras have better night contrast. One thing I’ve noticed is most children’s bedding and clothing reflects white, so it’s hard to see sharpness at night. Maybe they can add a manual contrast highlight/shadow b/w adjustment. This unit uses 2 Wi-Fi networks. 1 automatically to connect from camera to the parent unit, almost no setup required. The second is manually enabled if you want to simultaneously connect to the smartphone internet apps. This camera does not require internet to work and can be used locally. So range may be affected in Wi-Fi noisy locations. Unlike my DECT audio units. Range does affect the firmware updates, so bring the monitor next to the camera if it has an error.Since this is an IP camera, and appears to use unicast over Wi-Fi, there is that delay Analog monitors don’t have. If they could add a IP multicast option, it might cut that delay out, like my other security cameras do.There is both a microSD slot for local recording, and a cloud option for internet access. The rtsp port is open on the camera, but I can’t find any documentation on the specific url to include in my ip camera network DVR.Both The parent unit and camera are rechargeable. Easily handle short power outages. Something most baby monitors don’t do.The parent unit can turn off the picture and have audio stay on. The colored lights take some instruction reading. They should be labeled on the unit. The microphone is sensitive. The sound alert detection is too sensitive, “low” still alerts on noises outside the house. Like dogs, cars and rain. Medium triggers every time the central air comes on. I’m sure they could add a filter for crying, or voice spectrum only if I asked.Motion detection works, but for a baby monitor it would make more sense to have a “restlessness” graph. Motion might be ok for climbing out of a crib, or moving a lot. I’d rather see something like a sleep/restlessness graph. Like fitness trackers do. So I know if they slept a lot, or tossed and turned all night.I will be getting a second camera for my other baby. The parent unit can display multiple cameras, in time sequence, but not split screen. I really wish split screen was an option, at a minimum on the iPhone/iPad app, if the monitor can’t handle it.As for a wish list, it would be nice if the iOS app alerts included a snapshot. So I don’t have to open the app.

Rechargeable Battery in Parent unit NOT included in my purchase
I never write reviews...My sister in-law just opened up her new Cherish C525 and the Li-Ion rechargeable battery that was supposed to be with the unit was NOT in the parent unit. Bought this as a X-Mas gift to use when she had her baby. Now its beyond the return date and i have no idea as to how to purchase a replacement battery that was supposed to be in the unit.Without an included battery with the handheld parent unit, this system has value if i use the mobile app but basically renders the parent unit completely useless as a portable handheld.Maybe it was an oversight with my package but as of now i am deeply unsatisfied.
