Renegade Gospel: The Rebel Jesus (Renegade Gospel series)

I ordered this book so I could more fully understand the Lenten Bible Study that my pastor was teaching. This is the book that she is using. It certainly shed light on the fact that Jesus came to save us and teach us to serve others in His name. I enjoyed the book, and I am enjoying the bible study at my church. The ideas that Jesus preached to the people of His time were radical and not well received by the political elite priesthood of the Jewish faith. Sadly, this is still the case in the world. If we could save ourselves, we would not have needed Jesus. In the year 2016, we should have learned what He was teaching us and found peace in this world. When He returns as He promised to do, then there will be peace.

We are using this book for a small group study. Our group is finding this book very good at getting conversation flowing. Thoughtful materials which stir us to social justice ministry. We also are using the DVD. It is helpful, but the book is better. I am also using the leader's guide. I don't use all of their suggestions, but some are quite helpful to get us talking. If you do get the DVD, be ready to turn down the volumn. The music they use to lead in and out of each session is very loud and very abrasive for our older group. As the leader, I usually read other materials to expand my own information. I am reading Brian McLaren's "The Secret Message of Jesus" along with this book. The two books are quite complementary.

Very interesting book

A very thought provoking, Spirit lead work. Renegade Gospel is a Breath of God for the slumbering church of America. It recalls God's Church to its fundamental mission--taking Christ to a hurting world--no matter the cost. Mike Slaughter reveals the Rebel Jesus who practiced and spoke truth-to-power: He cleansed the temple, and shook the seats of worldly power. The Rebel Jesus worked His works in spite of religion, culture, and government. This book challenges the followers of Christ to go and do like-wise.

I read this book as part of a Bible study. At first, I wasn't too sure about it, but the more we watched the video that goes with this book, and discussed it, the more I liked it. I guess I hadn't thought of Jesus as being a renegade / rebel. But in a positive way, he was.

I bought this book used. Book is in perfect condition!

I recommend this book to anyone who seeks to have a stronger connection with Jesus and to actually put their faith in action.

Mike Slaughter is a wonderful disciple of Christ. He shares his experiences and wisdom from the deep love he has for our God. Plus he is a darn good writer and teacher! I would recommend this book to anyone desiring a deeper and more meaningful life with Jesus. An abundant life lived fully for the glory of our Lord!
