How to fix brightness issue
Very nice tv. Easy installation - from box to viewing, took us about 1.5 hrs, which included the run to the hardware store for screws that fit the tv to our existing wall mount. I rarely write reviews, but in the interest of saving other's time, here is the specific solution to the dark screen caused by the default energy saving feature. Once set up, go to Settings, scroll to bottom, select All Settings. The new menu will include at the top Picture. Choose that, then turn off the energy saving feature. That's it, and the picture is now of excellent quality.

Cannot use without giving all your personal information to LG
In order to use the TV you need to agree to a very invasive "Privacy Policy". LG is not only collecting basic device information but they want your zip code, your IP and MAC address, what apps you use and how you use them, what buttons you click, they even collect your voice. You can't use any app like netflix, hulu etc. if you don't let LG listen to anything that might be going on in that room.Update: Upon further looking into what LG is doing, they even try to pull up data from an external flash drives you may have plugged into a computer on the same network. So far, these are the URLs that are collecting your data. You can block them in your router security but there is no way to know if and when they may change.

Beware! and KEEP THE BOX
Picture is good in daylight. It darkens at night when you need the brightness. If you want to use the LG apps and voice control, you must agree to allow advertising and data collection and allow LG to sell your info. There are NO written instructions.. you find the info telling you about data collection and advertising(which does not appear anywhere in print on the LG site) on screen where you have to agree to accept advertising and date mining in order to use the Smart TV features. If you have an Amazon Fire Stick, you know that Amazon has your info. With LG, who knows?KEEP THE BOX the TV is not returnable without the original box and packing.

For the price and a native 120 Hz panel, a great choice. Wireless connection strength YMMV
I love this TV, absolutely love it. For the price, I think its a really good choice. Its hard to find a native 120 Hz panel for this price. The only issue I ran into was related to the WiFi connection. It seems to have a really poor WiFi card in it. The router is merely feet away and the signal strength it receives is appalling and speed across apps is miserable. Accordingly the content is not streamed in the best possible resolution. I switched over to an Ethernet connection and that solved everything. The sound is good, picture quality is good, the design aesthetics receives compliments. Local dimming (entire screen is divided into sections which brighten and dim) is something I felt is gimmicky. Unless you're sitting right in front of the TV, you'll watch the sections brighten and dim close to having a strobe effect but you can easily turn it off it it bothers you.LG if you're reading, a better WiFi card please. Otherwise Kudos on a great product.

Bought this TV less than a year ago and it is already broken
Waste of money. Doesn't work and I have only had it 10 months. My vibrators last longer.

Black out
Well in the beginning the TV was great but two months after having it. it start it to blacks out when I’m watching shows on my kids are playing a video game. They did send a technician he looked at the TV took it apart to replace the board. but he said he had the wrong part and it will be a couple days for the right part to come in for me to let them know if the TV keeps going out. So right now I’m waiting to see what they’re going to do for me about this TV what use do I have of it if it keeps going out.

Worth every penny.
There are so many more features than mentioned in most sites and reviews. The remote is very accurate and easy to use even as a mouse on screen. You can also download apps to make your phone use the controls on the TV or stream, upload pictures or music onto your TV.Google home mini works great except turning it "on" but not that important because the integration is so good that you can tell your TV to tell google home to change things like thermostat temperature or lights (if connected) and you can tell google home to control TV volme/chanel/app/input. It may only get better with updates. Very well interconnected with google and I'm sure amazon's Alexa too. It's fast, great quality and very customizable. Has own app store with many apps such as a fireplace or space live videos to use as a screensaver.Awesome TV.

Nice, Not Great, Picture
I have 3 plasma TVs of various ages, and my 43" just broke. I wanted something under 50", so this 49" LG fit the bill and had good reviews across the Internet. The TV has a very good picture. Definitely need to turn off the Power Saving feature. The remote is interesting, but doesn't control my FiOS box, so I'm just using my FiOS remote except for getting into the TV settings.Looking at football today and comparing to the LG to my 50" and 60" plasmas. Well, it's not a fair fight. The plasmas show much greater dark color depth/detail. I recorded part of the game to do comparisons across the TVs. For example, the Denver coach is wearing a dark blue t-shirt and same color windbreaker. The LG shows very little detail, yet both the plasmas show lots of detail. The faces of black coaches with ball caps in the sun are very dark, yet on the plasmas you see their facial features just fine. A TV commercial with a woman with brown hair - LG only shows hair-by-hair detail in the better lit section, yet the plasmas show individual hairs in the darker sections. The LG picture is definitely sharper, with the plasmas having a softer image (yes I've customized the plasmas' setting and brought up sharpness). The side angle viewing of this LG is pretty good compared to most LED, but plasmas are awesome from the side like an old tube TV or the new OLED TVs.(Yes, I admit I'm sad my plasma TV died.)In general, I like this LG 49" TV. The picture is very good and the sound is fine in the guest bedroom / workout room I have it in, though it can't compete with the new very expensive OLED in the darker picture areas. I need to start saving my pennies for an OLED when the next plasma TV dies. My neighbor's 65" OLED is off the charts.

Do you need Local Dimming....not really
We received this TV 3 days ago. The purchase of the LG 55SK8000 was made with the knowledge that local dimming was very poor because it was implemented in 5 sections vertically across the screen. The preferred industry method is what they refer to as array local dimming. To be honest I've seen other TV's with array local dimming and for my opinion it's not worth it. These TV's appear if there sre tiny weak lights going on and off across the screen. i find this very distracting. So back to the LG 55SK8000 when we setup the TV we simply turned off local dimming on all the modes. Now we are able to enjoy what I consider to be the best picture of any Super UHD TV on the market. What you get for the price is a lovely looking smart TV with a tremendous picture, feature packed with LG's famous majic remote control all for the price of a normal UHD TV. Do I miss the Local Dimming...not a chance. Don't be fooled by the so called experts. If you're looking for a value packed 55 inch Super UHD this is the TV for you. Best bang for the buck.

Stay away!!! Dont buy. Bad tv! Lg needs to be ashamed
Do not buy this tv. I got tricked into thinking a "super ultra high def" would have a great picture...nope. Native 1080 content from cable provider that looks AMAZING and clear and crisp on my samsung mu6300 4k uhd smart tv well on the same channel on this lg sk8000 tv looks barely better then 480p standard def!!!. And i spent HOURS fiddling with every single setting too. Totally unaceptable!. I got my full refund and will be purchasing a samsung as they always have great picture and my current mu6300 samsung is amazing so i know and trust samsung! The audio on the sk8000 too was tinny and muffled. Tried every audio setting too. So stay away from the sk8000. Lg needs to be ashamed of themselves marketing a tv as super ultra high def when nothing super bout it. Funny cuz 4k uhd smarts look 1000000x better then this super ultra high def. Go figure
